— TEST DRIVE: APRIL —

Welcome to empatheias' test drive meme. This test drive is to help interested players test their characters in the game's environment. We've included a few prompts that incorporate specific elements of the game, though you'll find all of them have a lot of leeway for players to get as creative as necessary. Before diving in, here are a few things we'd like to remind everyone about the game in general:

• Date reminders. Reserves open March 25th and Applications (Canon | OC) open a week later on April 1st. Apps will only be open for four days!
  
  
• OC Reminder! Just a quick reminder that original characters are allowed. Those interested can also use the test drive. OCs do not need to be reserved.
  
  
• Emotions are key! Empatheias' premise focuses on how anyone's emotions can affect their environment, be it big or small. While not every emotion will cause a reaction, significant ones definitely will. How much effect a character will have will ultimately be up to you, the player. Also, while we're giving a lot of leeway for the test drive, keep in mind that there will be some limits in the actual game.
  
  
• Everyone has an amulet. All characters have a unique amulet that is specialized for them. It will contain all of their emotion drops and it serves as the network device. Remember, communication is telepathic. Otherwise, it works basically the same.
  
  
• Assume the character is already in the game. Because "OMG WHERE AM I IS THIS REAL LIFE" threads aren't going to be very helpful in this test drive! Plus, those are going to happen in-game, anyway. So to make things easier, just assume that they've been around at least a week or so. Still learning the ropes, but not a complete "first day" experience.
  
  
• First or third person allowed. Your threads can be in either first or third, but we'd advise being flexible about it. Remember, these threads can also be used in your application for samples! Reminder: We only require one sample and it can be done in either format. We have also made a change to our sample requirements, so look over the Applications page!
  
  
• Transfer to in-game. If accepted, you can assume threads made on the Test Drive happen in-game if the scenario can reasonably fit. For new characters, these threads do not count for activity check. However, these can be supplementary threads for players already in-game.
  
  
• For your threads, put the Character Name and the Canon in the subject line to help readily identify them. You're also welcome to use more than one prompt for respondents to choose from. If you have any questions or want to brush up on the game information, refer to the Game Information entry. Otherwise, tag around and have fun!
  
  
  Now with that out of the way, here are some prompts you guys can work from!

PROMPTS

• Prompt A: How about giving the emotions a try?

• Prompt B: Refer to the Task Board and choose a task your character may be interested in taking up. For this prompt, you could have your character ask for help, already be in the middle of the job, or react to it in some way. Perhaps they were an unfortunate victim or want to create a job countering an existing one. You could even have a prompt making a job request. Creating jobs for the purpose of the test drive is absolutely doable.

• Prompt C: How about giving the amulets a go? Start a telepathic conversation and see how it works. Remember, the amulets are sending out the owner's thoughts so might want to be careful about how the stream of consciousness goes...

• Prompt D: Arehtei Amusements is a new company in Verens seeking to bring Arehtei themed festivities to the people of the city. This might've not been the best idea as it's not endorsed by the creatures themselves and coming up with festivities for some of them can be a bit of a stretch, but they've already incorporated, so it's a little late for that now. Anyways, first up is Piphron, which might not be the best or the easiest choice, but it's too late to change their focus now. So visitors to the Piphron Party will find a few activities awaiting them:

1. Catch of the Day: One of the first activities people will notice resembles a game of frisbee. But with blindfolds! What better way to build trust if you can't see or at least that's the line of thinking here. Participants will be grouped together and whoever's turn to catch will be blindfolded and have to rely on their partner's directions to catch the flying disc. Everything about this seems like it was a better idea than on paper, but it's probably too late for that now. Especially if one of them is flying at you!
   
2. Leap of Faith: For those who want to try out something with less of a chance of getting hit in the face with a frisbee, there's also a trust fall activity going on. But unlike the regular team building exercise, this one seems to have been taken to the extreme and mixed it with bungee jumping. After a brief lesson in Dunamis, one person will be escorted to a platform to fall off it and work with their partner on the ground to slow their descent using emotion magic. And don't worry, it's completely safe! The area under the platform seems full of what looks like foam padding, so there's nothing to worry about if someone messes up or falls too fast.
   
3. Paper Trail: The Arehtei have two sides and since balance is important, they've also tried to incorporate feelings of distrust into today's activities (besides the feelings of skepticism one might have from watching this nonsense and learning the event organizers are planning on more things like this). The organizers were trying to set up a mock murder mystery to try and sow feelings of suspicion or distrust in good fun, but it seems like someone's stolen the sign up sheet listing all the roles! So now they're asking for help to recover the sheet and the culprit responsible! It could be anyone, but odds are they're still in the park somewhere. Or more likely, the wind blew the paperwork away when someone wasn't looking, but they don't seem to be considering that one, so good luck hunting for the mystery thief!
   

• Prompt E: Whether he finds you on a random street corner, inside a grocery store, or at the library, a butler who introduces himself only as Benson is handing you an invitation and informing you that the illustrious Count Dunnit has invited you to stay at his manor for the weekend with a few other select guests. The Count has yet to name an heir for his abundant fortune, and he apparently has decided to bequeath his estate to whoever he enjoys spending the weekend with the most. How can you possibly refuse? However, should you choose to join Count Dunnit and his other guests at the manor, you may find that this weekend is more than you bargained for...

1. Curious Cuisine: Upon arrival at Count Dunnit’s manor, all guests will be invited to partake in a sumptuous dinner of all sorts of rare and exquisite Verenthian delicacies. The food comes in all sorts of strange varieties and colors and aren’t the sort of things that one can find at any restaurant in town, though perhaps for good reason. Whether or not any of this is appetizing is debatable. Have you ever tried grilled wyvern tail? How about bat wings? Snakes? Just snakes? Well, if the cuisine isn’t to your liking, towards the end of the meal, the lights flicker out and when they return, Count Dunnit has crumpled down into his seat, dead as a doornail. Things just took a turn, didn’t they?
   
2. In the Dining Room with the Candlestick: So, Count Dunnit is dead, and everyone in the room is a suspect. You’re a suspect. Anyone here might have killed him to steal his fortune. So it falls to you and your fellow guests to analyze the evidence and discover who the culprit is! Dunnit was poisoned, ostensibly, so starting your investigation in the kitchen and interrogating the staff may prove fruitful. However, it also appears that Dunnit has a stab wound in his back, leaving you to find a knife. To complicate matters further, there is also an injury from blunt trauma to his head. Anything might have caused that. How will you investigate the murder? And moreover...can you trust your fellow guests?
   
3. Goodnight Sweet Prince: As your investigation continues, it becomes clear that there are simply too many variables in this situation for there to be any one culprit, and all clues point to the murder being a joint effort by the members of the staff in an effort to prevent any of the guests from receiving the fortune they feel they rightly deserve. Once the jig is up, however, they release a sleeping gas into the manor and make their escape before anyone can pursue them. These sleeping gas has some extra special properties that make those under its influence particularly cuddly and snuggly when they lie down for a little nap. You may wake up closer to someone than expected. Maybe they’re a complete stranger and you can both agree to never mention this again...or maybe not!
   

• Prompt F: As the years go on and more people begin to get a grasp of their Dunamis magic, Mr. Bubbly, a man with a vision wants to start training exceptional children to become the island's first official superhero group. He believes that by teaching them to harness their Dunamis by an early age, as well as instilling in them a strict moral code, they'll be ready to defend us from anything in the future. The name of this class? The Umbra Academy. Meanwhile, another man with a different set of ideals, Lord Saline, wants to begin his own program, The Astra Academy. While his school teaches young minds to control their Dunamis as well, he is viewed more as an extremist who wants to tear down the wealthy. While the schools are aware of each other, they have agreed not to clash directly.

1. First Class: As both academies officially begin class, they are going to need both students and teachers. Anyone aged 17 and under is welcome to join either group, be it as a student or a teacher. Anybody over that age will have to apply as a teacher/guardian, as the students are largely made up of ten year olds. Either way, whether you're a student or a teacher, you are tasked with standing in front of the class and introducing yourself. Talk about your world and most importantly, what it means to be a hero! Be prepared to take questions, too.
   
2. The Clash: Astra Academy's first mission is underway! Lord Saline has tasked both students and teachers to break into the vault of a museum, using only Dunamis and non-lethal methods when disposing of guards. Ideally this is meant to be a stealth mission, so it's best not to get caught at all. The target? A pink diamond, belonging to a corrupt owner, which Lord Saline intends to sell and distribute to the poor. Meanwhile, the Umbra Academy has a mission of their own! Their students and teachers are to stop an ongoing burglary of a popular museum. If it wasn't obvious so far, it quickly becomes clear that both groups are sent to the same location, with the goal to prevent the other from succeeding. Looks like it's the clash of the academies!
   
3. The Last Stand: Eventually, it's revealed that Mr. Bubbly and Lord Saline are in fact the same person, a legendary con man known as Jet. He created both academies and pit them against each other so he can steal the pink diamond for himself, which he succeeds. Now, even though they're officially disbanded, it's going to take the full force of both academies to catch this criminal mastermind before he gets away. Jet commands a luxury airship full of well-paid guards and mercenaries, which is easily tracked down by our heroes. Using your lessons of stealth and combat from either class, it's time to find your way around his cronies and get that diamond back!

[ It's said pretty flat out when he's been basically shoved into this game of trust. Throwing a frisbee, sure, he'd be down for it. But, not blindfolded and with someone who could likely deck him in the face with this thing. Sure, it might be plastic but throw that thing hard enough and he'd lose some teeth. He stands there pretty adamantly, arms folded and definitely looking sour.]

I said, no. I can explain it to you with a good kick in the leg if that gets it through your stupid head.

[ He's definitely sassing out the organizer now. Woe be to you if your his partner. Or maybe you're some passer byer who is watching the poor organizer deal with a difficult teenager. ]

In the dining room

[ Well, this was a night that was going terribly. First the food looked and smelled completely unedible. He had to survive on bread and even than it was not fun. Having dined on better food having been here this was definitely a step back.

Oh and there was a dead guy or something. Glitch is standing by the wall arms folded clearly watching everyone else in the room currently. So, he definitely knows he didn't kill the guy but of the others? Who knows. It didn't seem like a smart idea for the guy to announce his wealth and to give it away to some random person. So, he just sighs. ]

I wonder how long it would take to get someone to confess if we just burned the house down with us all trapped inside?

[Wealth and fortune? Sign Scrooge up. (Hey, if they're giving the money away, why not?) However, the duck didn't sign up for a murder mystery.]

I think it'd be less the culprit confessing and just everyone confessing to escape.

[He snorts and straightens up, leaning on his cane.]

Though given all these wounds, I wouldn't be surprised if there was more than one culprit. Either that or our murderer is an overachiever.

A: [While the concept of emotional magic is new to him he decides that trying it out is better than just letting it happen to him. Being proactive and testing it out for himself seems like the best bet at getting to know and understand it.

So, the name of the game is you falling from that tower into a pit of foam bits while Link tries to slow your descent using this emotional magic. He is fairly new at this so it is uncertain if he will be successful or not but he’s standing down at the bottom of the pit as he waves up to whoever has decided to trust him.

Go ahead- Jump!]

B: [Or perhaps it is the other way around. Maybe it is Link who has trusted you in slowing his fall using emotions. Link stands at the top of the tower instead as he gives a small nod and inches to the edge. He’s ready to leap. Luckily he does stuff like this all the time.]

[E1: curious cuisine]

[Link isn’t really one for fancy parties. He’d much rather spend his time doing more productive things with his time like finding out how he can return home. ... But food is food. He won’t get anywhere without making sure he takes care of himself.

And Link is far from shy when it comes to tasting new foods. He’s had his fair share of strange edibles over his lifetime and this is really no different. As that plate of grilled wyvern tails and salt and pepper snakes comes out and is set before the guests Link merely serves himself up and starts to taste test.]

... It’s surprisingly not that bad. A little salty. But good. [Wyverns. Who knew people could eat them? A few streams of blue energy fizz and bubble around Link with his delight at how good it actually tastes.]

[G: spiders]

[Link is out searching the outskirts of the town. He’s trying to get a better lay of the land and see just how far this floating island stretches.

While he’s out here and minding his own business and taking mental notes he doesn’t notice the way his arm brushes against a branch of a tree and a new eight-legged passenger lands on his arm. The next thing he knows he’s wincing and brushing the insect of off himself. A spider bite… Now he has to make sure that wasn’t a poisonous one.

Little does he know that spider bite carries a small dose of non-lethal venom that makes him feel random emotional changes. If someone runs into him, he might just be suddenly happy, angry or fearful. Who knows. It’s kind of a roll of the dice.]

G!!

[Mipha hadn't really gone exploring since she ended up in Verens; there wasn't much of a reason to. The most she had done was an excursion to Shaarnath with Sidon and Archie—and it wasn't long. But around Verens, she mainly stuck to the city and, of course, Lake Niras.]

[It's on one of her daily trips back from the lake that she gets a little turned around. This'll teach her to stray from her normal path for a little sight-seeing. When the deep woods thin out and a field stretches open before her, she knows she's lost.]

[Well, it's no big deal. If she goes back the way she came, it's a straight-shot back to the lake, and the city is closeby. What Mipha wasn't counting on was a glimpse of Hyrule royal light-blue and familiar blonde hair in the near distance. It's Link alright; she would be remiss if she didn't greet him out in the wilderness! ......Or, at the very least, she would regret it later if she didn't...]

[She makes her way over at a normal pace (can't look too eager), and once she's close enough that he'll hear her, she calls out.]

Klaus Hargreeves | The Umbrella Academy

Ohm...

[Klaus is sitting in front of a flower pot filled with dirt, legs crossed and hands on his knees as he attempts a cliche meditative pose. He's done this sort of thing before, but never while sober. The experience is completely different and now he feels a tad bit ridiculous, which isn't really the feeling he's going for.]

I feel at peace with the world. My spirit fills with... something peaceful. My mind is clear.

[His mind is nowhere near clear, but maybe he can convince himself that it is. Unfortunately, whatever he's trying to do doesn't seem to be working. Nothing is happening with the flower pot.

Help him out? Or avoid him completely. You can't be blamed for choosing the latter.]

d2.

HEY! [Whoever's waiting below is going to see Klaus peeking his head out over the edge of the jump and pointing a finger down in their direction.] I'M COMING DOWN!

[He backs out of sight, but only for a moment. After a few seconds his head appears again.]

JUST SO YOU KNOW, IF YOU LET ME DIE I'M GOING TO BECOME THE MOST POWERFUL GHOST EVER AND HAUNT YOU WITH MY GHOST ARMY. DON'T SAY YOU WEREN'T WARNED.

[Then he backs away once more, and this time when he reappears he's leaping off the edge into a full-on freefall. If he plans on doing anything to slow his fall he isn't doing it yet.]

I bet it was the snakes.

[Klaus seems to be taking all of this in rather well. He's nibbling on a shrimp as he watches everyone fumble around and try to figure out what happened. After a few minutes of this, he discards the shrimp tail into someone's abandoned wine glass and wipes his hands off on the front of his shirt.]

No one needs to panic, I've got this. [He doesn't know if he has this, in all honesty, but he can always try. Confidence is important.] I'll just conjure up his ghost and talk to him. No problem.

[Never mind that this isn't something he's ever really done with a person he doesn't know, and his past attempts in general haven't always worked out. It has to be different here, right?]

[This entire set up sounds like a terrible idea. Catching frisbees without looking? That's more Gogo's thing. Although if she were here, she'd destroy every frisbee and probably anyone unlucky to catch her suit's discs...

F1. Umbra Academy

[You better believe Hiro signed up for this class as fast as he could. The chance to use super powers without technology? Heck yeah! His friends would lose their minds if they were here...

There's a sensation of being tethered to the ground. Unmoving. It's tempting for Hiro to let his sadness keep him down and hold him still. But he'd heard that everyone would be fine back at home, so he takes a deep breath and makes himself walk forward.]

My name is Hiro Hamada and to be hero, you have to realize that you're doing it because someone has to help. Even if you think you can't do a whole lot now, doing something is always better than doing nothing.

[ Here's the thing; Glitch thinks these rules are stupid. Literally, the worst idea was to throw these discs blindfolded because it could hit just about anyone. He might be this kid's receiver but he sure as hell isn't confident that he isn't going to get hurt from it. ]

Just take the stupid thing off and throw it to me. No one cares.

[ IE he doesn't care. He just wants this to be done with. This may be some kind of community service for him considering his attitude. ]

B. Task Board

[There's a request on the task board to help with some mean birds on the roof, and since Atreus has a certain affinity towards understanding the thoughts of animals, he figures he ought to help! So he's up on the roof, keeping his distance, yet leaning forward to try to get a good idea of what's going on. There's a wince on his face; the downside to understanding their thoughts is that there's a lot of thoughts coming from all these pigeons. Angry ones, at that. Eventually, he can parse out what they're saying, and he leans over to whoever's accompanied him on this quest.]

Uh... They say this is their home, and they shouldn't have to leave. [And after a pause, and a squint,] And that Gemina should leave instead?

[Well, this might be a problem.]


D. Leap of Faith

a. [Atreus still isn't really sure how this whole thing works. He's just getting used to using emotions to control the environment, and he's not really sure if trust and distrust is something he's proficient at.

Still, someone's counting on him, so he has to try. He looks up at them, then the padding below, then holds out his hands as if that'll help this whole magic thing a little.]

Okay... I think I'm ready!

b. [Or you're on the ground! In that case, Atreus isn't even going to wait for a signal. This looks like so much fun, so he's already leaping off the platform with a big, wide smile on his face. Better be ready to think fast and catch him!]

F. First Class

[Atreus has never been to a school before. He's always been taught by his mother, and eventually his father. Being in a room full of people he barely knows and taught by someone he likely knows even less is completely different. He doesn't like it very much, so he mostly just wonders when it's time to get out of here.

Which, of course, means he's first up to talk about himself. He doesn't want to do it, but after some humorous back and forth between himself and the teacher, he finally does get up in front of the class. He's quiet at first, then he, well... tries.]

My name's Atreus. My world's pretty cold and barren, and there's a lot of monsters around. And... I guess being a hero means helping people when they need it?

[He glances at the teacher, or he might even make eye contact with you. What else does he say? He's never done anything like this!]

How about a big bird dog?

[Maybe the boy decided he wanted to prove himself and explore the wilderness on his own, maybe take on one of those hunting tasks. Whatever the reason, he's having an adventure in the forest outside of town.

Also outside of town, a large bird dog-like creature has taken residence in said forest, because the city of stone is too cramp for him and full of those small stick people. None of them smell like his little person either, so there was no reason to wander close to their settlement. The old scars on his body have taught him stick people with their pointy sticks and fire are bad. Still, while it's been a peaceful life here, he misses his little person that took him on adventures.

So imagine his surprise and curiosity when he happens upon a little person wandering close to his home. It's not his little person, but it is still a little person. For Atreus, when he spots Trico through the trees, there are only a set of eyes peering back at him. What is this little person going to do?]

But Zivis is currently sipping on a cranberry-apple-raspberry concoction. And by the looks of the pink bubbles floating around her, she quite enjoys it! So much so that she's offering you (the random passerby) a cup as well!] Here! You should try this! [Her voice usually sounds like so but you might find that it sounds more like Jessica Rabbit.]

[ C ] [The background noise associated with her mental voice is not unlike the bubbling of a water fountain.] Hello again! I seem to have found my way back here from the Forest... Does anyone know if one's belongings tend to stay behind? I never did quite figure that out... To anyone new, my name is Zivis! You can find me almost always in the lake. [Though...honestly...with the things that live in the lake... This statement is questionable.]

[Right out of the gate, Ozymandias' tone is grandiose and far too sure of himself.]
I have, after much thought in the past week, decided to extend my magnanimous hand and offer you the chance to swear fealty to I, Ozymandias, King of Kings in this new world! I shall accept applications in either offerings to my godly self or trials by combat.

[In the Dining Room]
[Oz was truly just here because he'd never turn down an invitation to a dinner party, but certainly now he's regretting his decision as the host has rudely gone and been killed. He stands from his chair, regal posture and raised head giving off the disdainful energy as if it was his party that'd been so discourteously interrupted.]

Now, who had the poor taste to kill this man in the middle of dinner! If you're going to commit murder, at least have the courtesy to do it in private! Name yourselves, so that your punishment may be swift.
[Yeah he's... he's really just demanding the murderer confess. A bold move, if also an insane one.]

[When he's not making grand sweeping statements over the network and at dinner parties, one of the things Oz can be found doing is getting accustomed to his somewhat diminished powers. One such is the shrinking of the Great Sphinx of Abu El Hol to its juvenile form, which means there's now a lion the size of a large house cat, made entirely out of space, dashing through the streets, before returning to Ozymandias with just the hugest spider in its mouth, being warmly picked up by it's master.]

Ah Awlad, what do you have the-
[He shouts as he notices what it is, and drops the magic cat.]

Ritsuka should have expected something like this as soon as the amulets had been explained to the Rider. Really, she should have. Yet there's nothing she could've done about it anyway, so there's really no point in worrying about it. So, if there's no reasoning with him...

Hildibrand Manderville || FFXIV

A. He's Got the Glow

[The deliberate use of dunamis is a skill that requires practice. Diligence. Patience. And above all else, determination. These, of course, are all qualities of the quintessential Manderville Man, and as such Hildibrand has no doubt been doing his best to master this new power he wields. By exerting sheer confidence and optimism, with a dash of chivalry and goodwill, he can make the area around himself glow brilliantly.

He does not, however, have any power of self-control.

So by "brilliantly" I mean that it's roughly like the sun itself is floating directly behind him whenever he strikes a pose (which he does often), and while this makes for a rather striking silhouette it also makes for... you know, blinding light. Stop him!

E-2: Agent of Inquiry

Hmmm... Hmmm....!

[ In spite of the sudden horrible turn of events, Hildibrand seems surprisingly composed as he presses his fingertips to his temples, eyes closed in concentration. ]

[ Sheryl very rarely turns down an invitation to party. Not because she was a social butterfly, but because she thought of it as part of the job of being an artist. She needed connections and sponsors, especially when she was starting from nothing again.

In rare occasions, it can be fun however it did come with some problems. Like for example, she can be forced to socialise with bores, arrogant jerks and people who thought they could control her ----. It also came with the most outlandish food that she is sometimes forced to 'enjoy'.

She expected this night to be just another night. Usually, the host would ask her to become the entertainment. This time, the host was the main entertainment. He certainly got everyone's attention laying on the floor like that. ]

[ Of course Hiei, of all little demons that come out of the demon world, is intimately familiar with things like telepathic communication and all kinds of mental forms of spying or communication. It all spawns from the third eye covered on his forehead.. though it does have a bit of a mischievous and… evil nature. Such is the gift and curse of the Jagan eye.

Those nearby Hiei will probably feel it first, a bit of a strange, invading force in their minds. It has an odd, alien, and inherently bad feeling about it. Almost like getting the creeps because someone is watching you, just.. from the mind out.

With all of the extra input and possibilities opened up Hiei hasn’t quite learned how to get the Jagan on lock down yet, which may lead to quite a few creepy feelings before Hiei’s voice breaks through. ]

[ Bonuses of being a little fire demon with pointed, keen ears : Hiei doesn’t need directions to know when an object is flying at his face. After a few rounds of effortless catches, though? The organizers catch on to Hiei’s little cheat – (probably because he’s also unnaturally fast) – and give him ear plugs.

These dampen the soft sound of the flying disc enough that he can’t hear it and go by the sound alone, but don’t dampen his thrower’s voice enough to make the task impossible.

Still, Hiei seems confident, still standing there in full cape as if this is a child’s game.

(Hint : it is because the last time he was playing something like frisbee it was a huge circular sword and he took it to the gut.) ]

Just throw it. This will still be child’s play.

1. [ Hiei.. well. He’s not at all fussed about the food. He literally eats fermented guts sometimes as part of Makai’s exceptionally disgusting cuisine.. so wyvern tails and snakes? Not the worst thing he’s ever eaten.

2. [ Murder on his first day? Seems like home. To a point anyways. The more Hiei takes in of the situation the more it seems - ] Amateur effort. It’s sloppy all around.

.. And probably from someone closer than a guest. [ Just from the sheer amount of aggression it takes for a strike to the head as well as an ineffective stab. For a guy who’s pretty well versed in stabbings, guttings, and general gore it’s all something he’s achieved by the time he was a small child and surpassed by five years of age.

… So excuse how utterly disapproving he seems of the whole situation, approaching the corpse to give a few, testing sniffs. ]

Juvenile and unnecessary with that level of poison. A human wouldn’t be able to survive that anyway.

[ Because Hiei is just nasty as is the nature of a demon who lacks the simple ability to be cool - he considers spiders of considerable size to be snacks. Which may mean that, at some point, to any nature observer around or just someone who doesn’t really like spiders, Hiei can be spotted, you know –

Plucking a spider off of a tree or other conspicuous place, roasting it with a quick flare of his natural, hot energy… and eating it.

Sorry, Otherworlders and locals alike. ]

[ It's anyone's guess how Peridot came to be at this function when she doesn't even eat food or have any particular use for money, but here she is nonetheless. She's even brought Pumpkin with her, and has taken up an entire seat at the table to let the little gourd dog sit next to her atop a stack of thick books.

While the other guests are eyeballing the bizarre spread before them with a healthy amount of caution, the gem and her dog seem to be gathering up as much of a large variety of the stuff as possible.]

Excuse me? Could you pass that bowl of unfortunate looking gelatinous black goo over to me?

[ She points at the bowl in question. The contents are so unappetizing looking, they're honestly deserving of a real life censor bar. ]

Lucy sits on her own cushion at the front, and the kids are already gathering around her. For a fierce moment, she misses her sons - John would be just about their age - and then swallows down the emotion as one of her drops disappears.

[The thing with dunamis being used to make things better or to power machines(?!) or alter appearances has interested Aoi since she learned of it. Why? Because what better way to test out what it can do than by seeing if it's possible to draw on everyone else's emotions to do things like an Appeal or even project the look of some of her cards for clothing coords.

She's down two people for a unit performance, but that's fine-- she couldn't be an idol if she couldn't perform by herself either! If she can pull in enough positive emotions, she'll see if she can use that to magic her way into an Appeal. If she can do that, she can keep herself motivated to keep on moving up in using dunamis. So it's time for an impromptu concert in the park to test it, and after a loud announcement (or as loud as she can make it) Aoi will find a raised platform to perform.]

Everyone! My name is Aoi Kiriya, and today I want to make everyone's heart race with excitement and make everyone smile as brightly as they can!

When the call comes through to find the sign in sheet, she dons a detective hat (how she got it, who knows-- we'll just say she grabbed one from props?) and is going to go around grilling everyone she can find to track it down.]

You! [Yes, you!] Did you see the sign in sheet before it mysteriously disappeared? Did you see anyone around it? If you were a witness, I'll need to know.

[And then to cross examine everyone and gather evidence... it's going to be a long while until they actually get to finding where the sheet went, isn't it?]

That's a pretty good idea and she wants to help out! ...as long as those meddling kids(?) from Umbra don't mess it up! She'll fight with all her might if she has to! Which probably isn't a lot of dunamis training, but she's going to try anyway.]

B task board - birds

Normally, Kairi liked birds. She had plenty of experience with seagulls back home on the Islands and knew enough about all of the other birds that she could at least enjoy them. So she'd taken this task on, thinking it would be as easy as luring a seagull away with a bunch of food.

How very wrong she was.

This is turning out to be an exercise in futility. She has enough of a positive and upbeat nature that it really shouldn't be that hard. Yet these grumpy birds keep one-upping her. Every time she thinks she's found a way to lure them off, they turn around and go right back to the roof they've apparently claimed as "theirs."

So here she is now, staring up at the birds on the roof in question, with one hand at her chin and one hand resting on her hip. "These birds sure are stubborn," she sighs.

Kairi isn't honestly here for the bequeathing. She isn't the type of person to care about money or inheritance or anything like that. Mostly, she's curious about this man and what type of dinner he is offering to whoever else he has invited. So, here she is at the dinner table, eyeing some of these entrees and generally being very unsure if she'll actually eat any of them. They don't exactly look palatable.

At least none of it is still moving. That's a plus, even if the thought makes her stomach flip over unpleasantly.

"This doesn't look like any dinner party I've been to before," she comments to the nearest person, trying not to look as put off as she feels. There's no point in offending the host, after all.

F-1 First Class

Kairi stands when it's her turn to introduce herself. She's sort of been taking notes as everyone else started and she has an idea of where to start. At least by now she has more experience being a hero.

"My name is Kairi," she begins seriously. "I'm from the Destiny Islands, same as Sora and Riku. Being a hero... is hard to put into words. It isn't all about what you do or what morals you follow. It's about who you are, how you act when you're around people or away. It's about... fighting with all your heart to save someone. Being a hero takes courage. But it also takes humility and modesty, knowing that you're always working towards that goal of being a hero and helping people, but never being afraid to stop and learn. At least... that's what it is for me and that's what I've been trying to do for a while now."

She pauses, realizing that she's gotten maybe a little too emotional about it all.

"Sorry, that was probably too much." She smiles anyway, hoping to use this as a way to meet people. "So, I guess... does anyone have any questions?"

As bad as she felt about chasing the birds away from their nests, Fluttershy also worried that Gemima might also do something more drastic to be rid of them. She could see what Gemima meant about them being grumpy, though.

They weren't really much for talking either, and though they didn't quite dismiss Fluttershy's attempts at conversation, they didn't really listen when she asked them to move their homes.

Running out of options, eventually she decided to try one last thing. She couldn't help feeling a bit nervous, being out in an area so open and exposed. But she steeled herself while swallowing the lump in her throat and, as golden flowers started springing up from the ground, she started to sing.

It had taken her a bit of time to relearn how to use the amulets to communicate. In that time, she still hadn't found the answer to the question in the back of her mind. So she figured it couldn't hurt to ask.

"Hi, um...has anyone seen a wyvern that kind of looks like a hyena? Sometimes he answers to the name of Thal?"

While she had worked a bit with Dunamis the last time she had been here, she thought that taking a class to learn more would help her get more practice with it. However, she wasn't expecting an actual class, let alone having to introduce herself to people.

She had somehow managed to avoid standing up in front of everyone for the moment, but as her turn was quickly approaching, hairline cracks were starting to splinter the ground beneath her feet.

For most people, a swarm of a dozen or so spiders would probably be disgusting or frightening. But Fluttershy was perfectly calm as she sat on the park bench, the spiders skittering on the ground around her feet and over the park bench beside her. In fact, even with all the spiders around her, she seemed to be knitting.

"Thank you all again for letting me use your silk," she said, pausing her knitting to examine up her work. "I think it's turning out really well!"

Rosemaster has already procured a simply darling look for herself - a form-fitting burgundy dress with a cape wrapped around her neck and descending down almost to her waist. She also has a pair of large, round red glasses - although who knows where she got that from or why?

At any rate, she's walking through town looking rather pleased with herself. She's also feeling some positive emotions, and those emotions are making flowers grow faster as she passes them. Compliment her? Catcall her? Mock her? She probably won't care.]

Easily the most worrisome thing for Arthur about this new world is the power of emotions. He spent a great deal of his life suppressing how he felt personally in favor of making the wisest, fairest, and most logical decisions as king and while that time now is long since past, he still finds his emotions being obvious to anyone who happens to catch him having a particularly strong reaction to something a disturbing notion. He rather likes having the freedom to be able to choose himself whether or not he wants his feelings known.

As such, it was only a matter of time before he became interested in the practice of emotion magic, or what the locals call dunamis. A knight does not use magecraft, true, but the appeal of dunamis for Arthur lies more in the beginner steps than the more advanced techniques. Through it he can learn to control the environmental effects emotions can cause and that is the part Arthur is keenest on studying. His thinking is that he can stop progressing his skill in it once he’s mastered that and simply continue his knowledge on the practice so that he might be of some use to Ritsuka, should she need it.

Of course, the practical reasons for looking into dunamis aside, he's really just very curious about it.

Most mornings he can be found in the residential area, purposely bringing up specific memories of his that he's noticed stir emotions in him, that in turn cause things like flowers to bloom or persistent dust devils to kick up. Of course, his aim is usually to try making these things stop happening, but so far he's mostly only managed to minimize the effect rather than keep them from happening completely.

The existence of the Beastmaster Hunting Guild and its postings to the task board is rather fortunate for Arthur, because it gives him an easy way to earn sylvs while doing what he already was more or less helping out with anyway. Hunting is really the best way for him to keep himself physically active, short of inviting others skilled with weapons to spar with him, but there is another reason for him throwing himself into battles besides that and the currency it makes him: the seals on Excalibur.

Already having taken down plenty of spirarea and a few stingers, Arthur has decided to have a bit of a break before tackling the... er, trash monsters in the sewers and tackling more of the giant wasps. He has a few heavy sacks with him containing spirarea wings and stinger abdomens as he heads to turn them in.

Normally, Arthur is in favor of any festivities that lift the spirits of the people, but he's really not sure about this one. Certainly their hearts are in the right place, though there's no evidence that the Arehtei care at all for these festivals. He himself wasn't especially interested in joining in, but it seems some of the organizers of one of the games had other things in mind.

And that's how he came to be blindfolded now while his partner throws frisbees at him. In his defense, he tried to turn the organizers down, truly. Unfortunately, there just isn't any saying 'no' to them. For a while, he tries to play fairly, but his partner throwing the frisbees isn't exactly skilled at giving directions, he soon learns, so while getting smacked in the side of the head is all very fun and entertaining -- to everyone but him, of course -- after a bit of it, he starts to consider relying on Instinct to end this ridiculous game as soon as possible.
