Welcome to empatheias' test drive meme. This test drive is to help interested players test their characters in the game's environment. We've included a few prompts that incorporate specific elements of the game, though you'll find all of them have a lot of leeway for players to get as creative as necessary. Before diving in, here are a few things we'd like to remind everyone about the game in general:

• Date reminders. Reserves open October 25th and Applications (Canon | OC) open a week later on November 1st. Apps will only be open for four days!
  
  
• OC Reminder! Just a quick reminder that original characters are allowed. Those interested can also use the test drive. OCs do not need to be reserved.
  
  
• Emotions are key! Empatheias' premise focuses on how anyone's emotions can affect their environment, be it big or small. While not every emotion will cause a reaction, significant ones definitely will. How much effect a character will have will ultimately be up to you, the player. Also, while we're giving a lot of leeway for the test drive, keep in mind that there will be some limits in the actual game.
  
  
• Everyone has an amulet. All characters have a unique amulet that is specialized for them. It will contain all of their emotion drops and it serves as the network device. Remember, communication is telepathic. Otherwise, it works basically the same.
  
  
• Assume the character is already in the game. Because "OMG WHERE AM I IS THIS REAL LIFE" threads aren't going to be very helpful in this test drive! Plus, those are going to happen in-game, anyway. So to make things easier, just assume that they've been around at least a week or so. Still learning the ropes, but not a complete "first day" experience.
  
  
• First or third person allowed. Your threads can be in either first or third, but we'd advise being flexible about it. Remember, these threads can also be used in your application for samples! Reminder: We only require one sample and it can be done in either format. We have also made a change to our sample requirements, so look over the Applications page!
  
  
• Transfer to in-game. If accepted, you can assume threads made on the Test Drive happen in-game if the scenario can reasonably fit. For new characters, these threads do not count for activity check. However, these can be supplementary threads for players already in-game.
  
  
• Enable Me/App This Pls. Talk about your app plans or look for a cast here!
  
  Now with that out of the way, here are some prompts you guys can work from!

  • Prompt A: How about giving the emotions a try?
  
  • Prompt B: Refer to the Task Board and choose a task your character may be interested in taking up. For this prompt, you could have your character ask for help, already be in the middle of the job, or react to it in some way. Perhaps they were an unfortunate victim or want to create a job countering an existing one. You could even have a prompt making a job request. Creating jobs for the purpose of the test drive is absolutely doable.
  
  • Prompt C: How about giving the amulets a go? Start a telepathic conversation and see how it works. Remember, the amulets are sending out the owner's thoughts so might want to be careful about how the stream of consciousness goes...
  
  • Prompt D: The change in seasons is in full swing, and with the crisp autumn air settling over the island, there is much to be done to prepare for fall and many new things to be enjoyed! Grab your scarf and your favorite pumpkin-flavored beverage and join in on the fall fun!
  

  1. Make Like a Tree: Naturally, as the leaves begin to fall, the city needs help cleaning all of them up! They will be offering a fair amount of slyvs for each bag of leaves collected, but wouldn’t there just be something so satisfying about jumping into a giant pile of leaves? Or even creating a leaf-fort? There’s no time limit for taking care of the leaves, so as long as they’re gone eventually, there’s no restrictions on how much fun you can have with them in the meantime!
     
  2. What Does the Fox Say: Animal ear headbands are all the rage among the locals right now! The company responsible for making them has been handing them out for free as a trial to anyone who will take them, and will even compensate those who return with their impressions of the product. They’re fun and cute and come in a variety of styles, but once worn, they do possess some unusual qualities. They bring out the characteristics in the wearer that match those of the animal that the ears belong to. For instance, someone wearing fox ears may be particularly cunning and clever, while someone wearing rabbit ears may be excitable and jumpy! These effects will wear off in time once the headbands are removed, but how long will it take you to realize the headband is the problem?
     
  3. Let’s Go Fly A Kite: Kites are also especially popular in the city this time of year, with kite aficionados crowding the countryside to let their little paper diamonds fly in the wind. Anyone is welcome to pick one up and try flying a kite for themselves, but beware...some of the kites are very...spirited, and are liable to fly off into the air with their owners still attached! Better hold on tight, or look for a rooftop to safely land on. If nothing else, the kite has to come down eventually, right? ...Right?
     

  
  
  
  • Prompt E: Theasthai is hosting it's 11th Art Fair for the year (they really love art), and once again, everybody is invited! Even if art isn't your thing, the city itself is always a sight to behold and the atmosphere is great for making new friends. So come on down and watch, participate, learn!
  

  1. Life Drawing Class: Whether you're drawn (no pun intended) to art and like to show off your skills, or you just want to learn some techniques, then the Life Drawing Class is for you! Anyone is welcome to join this one-day course, but the catch is that they must be willing to pose for their classmate, too. While no nudity is necessary, anybody who is willing to show off some extra skin will be generously compensated by the art committee. As for whoever they're paired with... their partner better draw them in a flattering way!
     
  2. Dance Festival: Dancing, as most would say, is also a form of art, and the natives in particular are focusing on one type for this festival. It's new, it's edgy, and it's no ballroom or salsa... no, it's a massive rave party! If anyone thought these were popular in their own worlds, well, they're a new thing in Theasthai! It's the first one, in fact, which means it's probably poorly organized. For starters, there is no designated dance zone, and the city is quickly overcrowded with more and more wild dancers. Soon enough, everyone is squishing and bumping against each other as they dance their hearts out. If anyone happened to be outside as this was starting to take form, their best bet is to weather it out and hope the dance party ends soon.
     
  3. Battle Poetry: The idea is simple and fun! A participant has to introduce themselves while speaking only in rhymes, but they are encouraged to boast about themselves and their accomplishments. The challenger, who can be either a friend or stranger, must then respond with an insult while also speaking in rhymes. The idea isn't to "win" the battle, however, but to simply give the audience an entertaining show. With that in mind, anyone is free (and encouraged!) to be as villainous as they like, so why not ham it up a little? It's all in good fun!
     

  
  
  
  • Prompt F: It's jury duty! The local government has asked you to show up to the trial courts to help out with some cases… hopefully you'll come with an unbiased and decisive mind! And, you know! Make sure you actually show up on time. Nobody really likes doing jury duty, but if you don't want various summons in your mail and people actually following you until you agree, then it's best to just show up.
  

  1. Winging It: A tycoon recently passed away and now his sons and daughters are fighting over who gets to keep the family property as well as the goods in the vault. Said vault has never been opened by anybody except the tycoon—in fact, nobody even knows what's inside to this day!—but it will be opened by the time the trial finishes. The family's pet parrot seems to have been a witness to the tycoon's last few days, though, and keeps talking about "family inheritance" and how "she's so beautiful, so of course she'll get the money". How mysterious! But can you really trust the words of an avian friend? It's best to deliberate with your fellow jury regarding this as soon as possible.
     
  2. Lock and Key: Regardless of the jury's decision, the vault is presented to the judge for it to be opened. The judge, as wise and as old as she is, doesn't seem to know how to open it, though. There isn't a knob to turn or any numbers to press—it's just one giant metal box with a handle. So perhaps emotions can be used to open it? She asks the people of the court to help out, even saying that anybody who can open the vault will be given a month's worth of burgers from the trial courts cafeteria. (What sort of prize is that?) It seems the way to get the vault to open is by touching the handle and one's leg while feeling an overwhelming amount of love. What a strange way to lock a vault...
     
  3. Treasure Trove: With everyone's combined efforts, the vault is opened! There must be millions worth of sylvs in there, but. . . nope! What it actually contains are magazines of women and men in swimsuits and other outfits in suggestive poses. The judge can't help but look down upon the family for worrying so much about a vault that only contains something like this and the family decides to just give everybody a copy of a magazine. As they say, another man's treasure is another man's trash?

[ He's only just heard about how the amulets work, but using them? That'd be another lesson all on its own. At the same time, it sure would be cool if he could take something like this home with him... It'd be a great way to talk to talk to all of the friends that he's said good bye to, that's for sure.

He gives it a try, trying to concentrate on the type of message he wants to send to others. ]

Hello? Can anyone hear this? [ He pauses. ] Man, this sure is different.

★ Prompt D: Make Like a Tree

[ It's easy to get caught up in just taking in the sights around him. The colors of all the leaves are so vibrant and beautiful. With how comforting that crisp, cool Autumn air feels, Sorey can't help but feel like he'd like to spend all day out here.

It isn't as though he didn't experience changing weather back at home, but there's something about the atmosphere here that's different. Perhaps it's the kid's excitement that makes him feel overjoyed, emotions only further affecting that atmosphere - or, perhaps it's that those feelings in general were merely contagious.

Sorey's about to settle down with a book when he feels one of his hands being tugged at. Eyes blink upwards, finding a child excitedly telling him that they want help to build a leaf fort.

He looks to the person who seems to be passing by, offering a small, sheepish smile. ]

You wanna help us build a leaf fort?

[ It's hard to even want to say no when the children seem so excited. Not that he would want to say no. ]

★ Prompt G: Roller Skates I

[ Wanting to save up for a few books, Sorey's decided to take up a part time job. He's... never had a job outside of the responsibilities at home, but he's willing to give this a try! It seems like a good way to help out people who need it, too.

The job in question? Delivering packages to others. The unfortunate thing about it? They want him to ride on roller skates in order to speed up the deliveries. Sorey's never tried roller skating before. And so, when he puts them on, he can't help but wobble a bit, gripping onto the nearest surface that he can reach in order to steady himself.

He takes his time to go back and forth for a moment, not yet letting go of the surface.

He smiles slightly. ]

Hey, this doesn't seem so hard!

★ Prompt G: Roller Skates II

[ Unfortunately, Sorey eventually does make it into town. And, unfortunately he still hasn't quite learned how to skate.

So, he'll be rolling forward rather quickly, arms waving in front of him in a desperate attempt to regain his balance. His eyes widen when he realizes that he's quickly nearing someone, or something. ]

[Madoka is also brand new to roller skating and even when she has all of her confidence unlocked now, this is new and this isn't like saving the world from despair and she still has lots of more to work on with nornal human skills--!!

So, unfortunately Madoka is very unsure of this whole skating thing when this encounter happens, still getting used to them and accidentally going too fast with them before she has any control... And then she hears that, looks at where the yell is coming from and starts flailing her arms in shock.]

No no, listen, mister, you should watch out too! Sorry, I'm not very good with these yet--! But if I dodge, then what happens to you?? [What if he'll run into someone or something else? Well there is still a bit time before this crash and she's trying to get out of his way at least...] ...Do you need help with stopping somehow or anything else with them? Maybe we can help each other without crashing!

Odo | Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

[Once he had ascertained the particular details of the strange amulet he had been granted, Odo made no short work in taking the next obvious step: using this 'tool' to locate anyone who may have been the least bit familiar to him.]

Odo to Kira, [he said, speaking through the telepathic networks in his usual brisk, if gravelly, tone of voice. When no responce was heard, he tried again, with a different name.]

Odo to Sisko. Do you read?

[Tiring of the antics of the humanoids who were raucously playing amidst the defoliated trees, Odo took to scurrying around underfoot. Literally. A small mouse, gray and inconspicuous, might be found just on the outskirts of the multitude of piles and forts. It's nose would twitch slightly as it seemed to watch with apparent interest.

A closer inspection would reveal an intelligent gleam in it's eyes, as if it truly were sentient and more than it seemed.]

[Was the gruff reply when someone in the throng tried to drag Odo, none to amused by the revelry, into the dancing that had overtaken the city. His voice was hard and irritable; his clear eyes blazed with a barely contained irritation. With a harumph he yanked his hand away and tried to fall into the background of the crowd, but it was of no use.

There was no escape, not without making a spectacle of himself.

[Well, if anyone Odo knows is shameless about making a spectacle of themselves, it's...well, Lwaxana Troi, but Julian is a close second.

As a bonus, he's been in the city before, so he sort of knows his way around. He's been letting the crowd move him around, not participating in the dancing really, but moreso a bemused observer of the whole thing.

His entire face lights up when he sees Odo. (It's been...quite some time.)]

[He sneaks his way out of the mass of people, somehow avoiding shoving people with his elbows.]

Odo, it's been ages, I'm so happy to see you!

[ It's the perfect day out for flying a kite, sure, and if you're out and about today, you might see several people doing just that! You might also see this young man (?) floating on a large green pillow as he flies his own kite, letting it drift in the air aimlessly. Occasionally, it starts to get a bit erratic, the cord tugging at his hand. ]

Hey, come on. You can't just go off like that, geez.

[ And with a belaboured sigh, King tugs his kite back in and under control, then glances around to make sure no one else is having any trouble. ]

[ King wasn't quite sure how he'd wandered in to a life drawing class, but one thing led to another and here he was. He hovers in front of a desk, flopped back on the over-sized green pillow-like thing, and stretches with an idle sigh. ]

I didn't really sign up for this, you know.

[ Were trials here really like that? At least they let the bird take the stand. There was one thing that was bothering King, though ... ]

I think we need to hear more from the parrot first.

[Look, a talking pig isn't weird anymore. All the magic and immortals that is part and parcel of their lives? Also not weird. A talking bird as a witness? Definitely weird.

Ban yawns heavily and leans back in his chair. Who thought it was a good idea to put these two on a jury together was a good idea?]

I got a better idea. I break into this vault, clean it out, then there's nothing to fuss over.

Prompt B (Task GT1005 from Task Board: October):

[As the Hero of Charity, the task board was basically a common haunt for him. It made it convenient to see what people needed help with and helping them with it.

It was currently why he was walking about the city as though he were searching for something. Once in awhile, he will stop and ask people and then continue his travels.]

Ah. Excuse me. I would like to know if you have seen these small animals. I believe they were referred to as "nyan-kitties" or something. They look to be like cats, but with outrageous fur.

[It is when you hear mewling from the mysterious pink form that follows Karna and a few of the nyan-kitties poking their heads out from it to mewl.]

Prompt D: Make like a tree

[Karna has grown used to doing such menial tasks around the city. Sweeping up leaves into piles and getting rid of them is just another thing he has easily accepted to do.

He considers there being quicker ways to cleaning them up, but...

Well, they didn't seem to take him shooting a beam out his eye to burn the leaves up to be an option and had reprimanded him for it. One would think that it would be quick for a Heroic Spirit to rid the area of leaves, but he seems to be going at a rather slow pace.

It's the laughter of children where he is that give it away. There were many kids laughing and jumping through the neat piles of leaves he's swept up. Despite it, he seems to just continue to sweep them up and wait for the kids to ruin them again. He has yet to join them despite them tugging at his arms a few times.] I have been told this is a common merriment. Is this what one always does when there is an abundance of loose leaves to gather?

Prompt D: What does the fox say?

[It wasn't that Karna had put the headband on his own volition, but that one of the locals were very persuasive in that he try them out. Well, they probably weren't very persuasive and that Karna just agreed quite easily to it in the first place. It was why he was currently sporting a white headband that resembled cat ears.

Karna was finding that he was acting particularly odd that day. He had ended up taking a nap in the sun and had been jumpy towards things that usually wouldn't get a reaction from him.

Odd.

He taps his chin thoughtfully as he considers what could possibly be the issue. He had most certainly not consider the cat ears still adorned on his head.]

Prompt G:

[He had been rather curious about seeing some kids getting around with roller skates. How interesting. Shoes with wheels on them to increase the rate in which people could get to place to place! It seemed that his interest had been obvious and someone had lent him a pair to try.

Karna found that he was truthfully no good at it.

The poor Heroic Spirit is currently clinging to his spear, which is the only thing keeping him up, as he tries to steady himself enough to not need it.] Ah, people are incredible to be able to adapt to these roller skates so quickly. To be able to balance themselves and travel with them on. Nothing short of amazing.

Ritsuka's trying not to laugh, she really is, but it's hard, and the way the air seems to almost glow around her is a bit of a giveaway of her amusement. Still, though, she perseveres, managing to limited herself to a (slightly amused) grin.

[ Perhaps it's a little too early for winter but for anyone who happens across Lake Niras, a winter wonderland of sorts is exactly what they will find.

Snow hangs on the branches of nearby trees, the lake itself partially frozen more so near the edges of the shoreline. The air is chilled, nipping at whatever warmth it might find out here, and icicles glisten whenever the sun tucked behind the clouds manages to shine on them. There is no Saint Nick, nor reindeer or elves or even faeries dancing from snowflake to snowflake that drift down from the sky. Instead, there is a man, dressed in a long blue coat and a sword at his side, standing there with the backdrop of an ice cavern having wrapped around some of the lake. He seems unfazed by the wintery wonderland in which he stands within, let alone the chill that glides across his cheeks, leaving them with a touch of rosy pink. Rather his focus in on an amulet (the gold one) he holds within the palm of his hand, fingers clutching it so tight that he bleeds, red drops staining the snow beneath him.

This winter is not a result of an early frost slipping its way in before it's rightful time. Instead, it's from a combination of sadness, of grief, of a purposeful isolation due to failure and possibly regret.

For the curious happening upon the ice and snow that's so very much out of place, the wind may very well pick up suddenly with shards of ice twirling around within it that could possibly cut if one is not careful. However, they might not sting as much as that blade which rests against his hip should you find yourself on the receiving end of it if you're not careful. But that might very well be a last resort of action. Perhaps.

[ While not participating in this leaves clean up, the eldest son of Sparda is instead sitting on a nearby bench with a book in hand (a stack of them neatly piled next to him), one leg crossed over the other and Yamato carefully placed at his side. He's managed to find the library within this world and with no longer being trapped in the demon world nor in the moment of engaging in battle with the prince of darkness himself, he needs to entertain himself somehow and reading happens to be one of his favorite pastimes.

He completely ignores the world around him, lost within the various words on each page that he turns. But when an assortment of leaves are thrown onto him either from whoever jumping into a pile of them practically right in front of him or by other means that may include blowing away from whoever and smacking him and his book, he glances up over the top of his book with piercing blue eyes, seeming less than amused. How could he be when he has leaves in his hair now? ]

[ How exactly he ended up in this situation is still a mystery to even himself. However, with being in the middle of this rave party squished between bodies that are bumping and brushing up against not only everyone else but him as well and who is touching him, who just pushed him, why is someone trying to tug Yamato away from his side? He's about to lose his temper and it shows in the way his eyes begin to glow a deep red and a particular devil within claws its way to the surface, wanting to come out.

Someone. Get him. Out of here. Now. ]

[ Seeing Vergil in such a place was rather humorous at first. How did someone like him out of everyone somehow get stuck in the middle of some weird rave party? She actually wanted to sit there and watch for her own amusement a little longer until she noticed a slight change. Glowing red eyes.... that's never a good sign.

Shit she's going to have to do something and fast...! She jumped off her perch and started pushing through the crowed with loud angry words. ]

Get out of the way..!

[ Jumping into pile of leaves? Creating a leaf-fort? Don't be ridiculous. It's cleaning time, and that itself should be fun enough. Well, at least it is for Hibiki who's collected a dozen bags filled with colorful leaves. They would definitely make a nice fort, but that's the last thing on his mind.

Which doesn't have necessarily apply to everyone else in the vicinity. Which Hibiki thinks is a shame, but he's used to people slacking off and not doing what they've been asked to do. He has no restraints about approaching someone having fun with the leaves...to ruin it. ]

Excuse me, are you done?

[ He's tapping his foot with his arms crossed on his chest. The fun police is here, everybody run. ]

( E: Life Drawing Class )

[ Between art and dancing, Hibiki picks the lesser evil which is undeniably the art class. While waiting for a partner, he decides to try some poses. That gets tedious really quick because he runs out of ideas a while later, so using Double Chase, he creates a clone of himself. Both Hibikis are striking a certain pose whenever someone decides to join them. ]

How lucky you are, you got two in the price of one.

( F: Treasure Trove )

[ It doesn't take a genius to realize that this trial is going to be a waste of time, but a duty is a duty—even children know that. After the farce that was opening the chest it becomes apparent that the family's treasure is full of questionable content. Hibiki is definitely with the judge on this one, looking down upon the people who were fighting fiercely just a few minutes ago. ]

You can give me all the copies and stop wasting your time, to be quite honest. I know what to do with them.

[ What a bold statement. Of course he's planning to burn them down, but without context it sounds somewhat...well. ]

[ Trevor heard the tapping and the annoyance in his tone, but did he care? Nope. He was leaning against the tree with his cloak pulled around him. This was such a stupid job to begin with and he only took it on because it seemed like a fast way to get some easy money.

He just wanted to take a short nap, but instead this extremely rude child decided to interrupt it. Never mind the fact that he was supposed to be working. Maybe if he ignores him he'll go away.]

prompt B: Task Board: Job ST1001

I'd rather go alone. I deal with things better when I am not burdened with the lives of others. [He speaks quietly, but with a firmness that cuts through the night air. His outfit, pure white and without a scratch, looks like it belongs to someone who is much more used to a life of sitting around and looking pretty instead of wandering the forest in search of some Schrodinger's Cave.]

If we get attacked and you are in the way of my assault, you could get hurt, or much worse. Do you really need to put the weight of your death on my head?

[Someone needs to chill out and accept help.]

prompt D: Make like a Tree

[ Really, a prince shouldn't be taking care of work like this. Really, a man with a title like The Endowed Hero shouldn't be even considering any sort of work that would get the pristine whites of the odd outfit he wears dirty.

And yet, there he stands, a rake in his hands as he seems to be taking care of a large patch of the cursed leaves with some sort of fervor. There's a determined look on his face as he does this, and it's grown apparent... the size of the pile of leaves he'd gathered is astronomical.

It's getting dangerously close to being less of a pile of leaves and more like a wall. Every now and then some younger folk try to jump into his pile, only for him to at least attempt to chase them off with his rake.

Either he needs a hand, or someone to tell him he doesn't have to take work like this so seriously.
....Unless you're one of those jerks trying to ruin his hard work.]

prompt E: Life Drawing.

How much longer are you going to take. [Despite the fact that he's more than likely capable of standing (or, as he's currently knelt down on the ground in a somewhat uncomfortable-looking 'battle' pose.) he seems to be getting impatient. That white robe of his placed to the side--just a sleeveless purple shirt and an ostentatious gold necklace settled on his shoulders)]

I am fully aware that Art has Form and Focus, but you have been sketching for what feels like well over an hour. Surely you can continue from your imagination and I can cease crouching here like some foolish looking statue.

That... is a very impressively large pile of leaves. Really, it's big enough that it looks like it'll take almost as much work to bag up and dispose of as it did to make it in the first place.

Though all of that is secondary to the fact that the overly serious Servant is apparently chasing kids with a rake.

[After making friends with Naruhodou and hearing about law a trial sounds almost kind of exciting. But no this was... This was a total joke from start to finish. A parrot as a witness, burgers as a reward and now swimsuit magazines. She's lost for words.

She's a little less lost when she spots a ten year old staring at a swimsuit magazine though. Hi Henry, don't mind as Farah tries to yoink that out of your hands.]

They do! This magical vault was... This one was a dud. [Let's go with that.] I've found treasure chests with a lot more exciting stuff in them than this vault. Old, powerful weapons, mysterious items...

[Maybe if she bigs up how amazing treasure chests are she can slip the magazine away without any questions being asked about it. He seems like the type of kid that might be into adventure and mystery given he wants to fight a dragon.]

They probably see the lalafell as an easy meal.

One lunges at her, and she raises her shield the block it while bringing down her sword on another that tries to hit her other side. The both yelp and fall back, and she tries to do the same. Escape does not seem likely.]

[The small lalafell fights against her kite as it tries to pull her along. She's pretty strong despite her size, but this thing is just giving her so much trouble!]

[To say Aurora hasn't dreamed of getting a portrait done would be a lie. She's always admired the portraits of heroes, and the idea of getting one done would make her the happiest lalafell in the world! However, modeling for this isn't really for a portrait; she was just asked to help out.

[ It seems like a straightforward task: Mayuzumi just needs to get this pair of ferrets into their harnesses so they can get a little fresh air and sunshine. Feeding and bathing the cute little guys hadn't been that tough and even made him smile, so this part surely couldn't be so bad either, right?

Except they're really persistent at wriggling out of his grasp whenever he tries to slip the slim leather straps around their bodies, which leaves him in his current situation: one ferret curling around his neck with it's black-tipped tail tickling his cheek and the other skittering around his hip and deciding the best way to evade his grasp is to burrow up under the back of his sweater. ]

H-hey! Get out of there!

[ He's now left flailing, trying to get a hold of the noodly lump slithering around on his back. ]

You know, it'd be really great if I could get a hand here.

[ And Mayuzumi thought for sure that the alligators would be the biggest problem with taking this job on... ]

[ Maybe Mayuzumi was just a bit weak to certain tropes, or maybe it was just the paid part of paid feedback that roped him into this, but he's been sporting a cat ear headband for the better part of the day. It hasn't really been a problem at all; half the time people have a hard time noticing him anyway so he hasn't even had to worry about feeling at all self-conscious.

On top of that, he's actually kind of pleased about the new reading spot he's discovered; there's a large, graceful branched tree in the park adjacent to the library that was practically calling his name earlier, and he'd scrambled up it without a second thought. He's been quite content for some time with his back nestled against the tree's trunk, quietly reading and half dozing, enjoying the sun's warmth dappling through rusty colored leaves.

Except now he's feeling a bit hungry and realizes that the ground suddenly seems a lot further away than he'd thought when he's about to jump back down. Just how high up in this tree was he? There was no way he could get down from here on his own...

His face flushes a bit pink when he realizes he has to call for help, right around the time he sees someone passing close by the base of the tree. ]

[ Helping a new cafe by the Canal Market self-promote seems like a pretty easy job, and it is. All Mayuzumi has to do is stand outside the cafe and attract the attention of passersby.

...While wearing a brilliantly green jacket and ridiculous artichoke-shaped bowler hat scaled in fabric artichoke petals, with a plate in his hands holding free samples. But whatever, a job's a job.

His expression and voice aren't quite conveying that service with a smile attitude right now, though. ]

[ Midorima does have a minute, but he has half a mind to ignore the person in the tree. He has to go through a number of stores to see if he can find his lucky item for the following day, which means that he needs to get started before it gets too late. So he walks about three steps further, though he does glance up at the speaker after that point and realizes who it is.

They've never really spoken and Mayuzumi never really took a big role on the court with his team (it would've probably spelled trouble for them anyway if he tried to misdirect with Takao around), but he at least has some idea who Akashi's teammates are. This is not enough to get him to actually consider helping at all, but when green eyes spot the set of ears atop Mayuzumi's head, they narrow in determination.

His lucky item for tomorrow is a cat ears headband in that exact color. It's moments like these that help reaffirm his belief in destiny, luck, and horoscopes. He may not have access to Oha Asa here, but moments like this confirm that he's found an astrologist capable of helping him survive the wrath of his terrible luck whenever he isn't properly equipped.

How to convince Mayuzumi to hand them over, however... he supposes he'll have to engage. ]

[ There is a peculiar maze with a dense fog that billows around it that has somehow been created out of thorns and thistles and vines which seem to be dripping blood. To be fair, it's not all of them, but a good many seem to be and, at first glance, one might wonder just who or what might have caught against these curled vines and if they are, in fact, injured because of it.

Should you go deeper within the maze, the vines, while still moving, will not reach out or attempt to grab you. Instead, they twist and curl around each other and a few trees that seem to have been caught up in their sudden growth. Regardless of how deep you go into this curious maze, it would appear that it continues for what must seem like forever and should you try and turn back? Well, that way is suddenly blocked by twisting and tightening vines and thorns.

From the shadows and fog of the maze, a figure appears then, tall in stature with blond strands of hair and eyes of gold that almost seem to pierce through the soul. The vines, curiously enough, seem to twist more tightly behind him, as if anxious... or perhaps even confused. ]

[ The magazines which are passed around are confusing, to say the least. The glossy figure on the cover, posed as they are, stares back at the dhampir, not even bothering to open, let alone flip through the thing. Instead, he turns to whoever happens to be there beside him (possibly with their own copy in hand) and feels the need to ask ]

[ There's a shop in the market that seems to be selling choke-o-lanterns, the new hot item for the harvest month since pumpkins are so last season. Lined along the shelf are various artichokes that have been "carved" as jack-o-lanterns would be, with eyes, nose, a mouth, some even spilling their guts from their mouths. All fabulously handmade and waiting for someone to take home with them. The best part? You can even eat them!

Curiously, the dhampir takes one into his hand and looks over the smiling artichoke that has angry eyebrows drawn over its eyes. This is... food? ]

I'm afraid I don't understand.

[ There are a number of places in which one can find Alucard. The Grand Central Libray is one, fingers brushing over the spines of books that line the many shelves which surround him. There may even be a stack taller than himself which he has carefully put together beside him; though do be careful not to knock into them by accident. Come dusk, the central hospital is another place one might find him, though without injury or illness and rather, a curiosity that is written all over his face despite how calm he looks, trailing down each hall as if looking for someone or something. Otherwise, it's during the later part of the evening that you may find him at whatever tavern may be around, though he has not come for drinks and socializing but, rather, keeping an eye out for someone in particular while keeping to himself in a somewhat darker part of the bar, seated at a table with no drink. ]

[ What could have possibly drawn Trevor into such a ridiculous place such as a maze? Well honestly he just wanted a few minutes to get away from everything. He wasn't the type to really show his discomfort around strangers but this place has been giving him serious headaches since he arrived. He took some breaths and wandered further into the maze for what couldn't have been more than a few minutes right?? But when he turned around to leave the maze seemed to completely shift on him. ]

[ Ever quick with his words, the entire pretense of "battle poetry" is enough for Akechi to devote a little bit of his time to it — at first, merely spectating, thoughtfully analyzing the rhymes of each competitor and the reaction of the crowd. Some are...certainly better than others, but the absurdity of the phenomenon itself is what he finds most captivating. Are these people really just having fun slinging poorly-rhymed insults at each other?

How interesting.

However, he doesn't have long to dwell on his hot takes about rap battles, because as the last number finishes and battle poets leave the stage, the emcee calls out himself and whoever happens to be standing next to him to duke it out in the next round.

Ah, well. This is...unexpected.

With an easy smile, he turns to his new opponent, gesturing towards the stage. ]

It looks like it's our turn to take the stage, if you're open to it. Though I must warn you, I've been told I have something of a way with words...

[ Akechi is probably the only person here who is actually excited to be a part of the jury. No, it's not a full-fledged investigation and he's not the one asking the questions, but this is still far more in his wheelhouse than anything else he's experienced here so far. He is more than happy to sit in on this trial and pass judgment rather than deal with, you know, emotions.

Still, he is genuinely surprised when a parrot takes the stand. It would seem this world has no shortage of bizarre oddities to take in, and allowing an animal to testify is yet one more such example. It grates on his patience, but he doesn't let it show, appearing as calm and thoughtful as ever.

Folding his hands in his lap, he turns to his fellow jury member. ]

Well, I think that was the most convincing account we've heard yet, don't you?

[ Is he serious? Is he messing with you??? It's impossible to say, but either way, he will do what he must to suss out the truth. ]

C. NETWORK.

[ Telepathy is, without a doubt, the...messiest part of all this. As he's come to understand it, others won't be able to read his thoughts unless he chooses to share them, but it's still...unsettling, to think that a mere conscious thought is what stands between him and his thoughts being known far and wide. He must be cautious, even more so than he usually is, which is saying something.

Still, he must flex his proverbial muscles in this aspect if he's going to grow familiar with it eventually, so to that end: ]

[Eva was used to odd situations. Heck, she even induced some of them now and then, what with pushing her partner off rooftops and whatnot. In the machine things like that weren't precisely deadly so she had no gumption about teasing him as she liked.

This though... well, for one, Verens wasn't any kind of memory she was playing through. Things would likely have a little more consequence here. And right now those things going on were a rogue kite that seemed determined to drag her off with it. It had all started off so nicely too, just a bit of a jaunt down memory lane and this is where she wound up.

At the moment Eva is just sort of drifting across the streets, low enough to be seen and yet not low enough to really grab anything that may actually, you know, stop her. Every now and then when she spots someone below - hopefully someone with a little height to them - she yells down:]

[Well. It's not something she's ever really considered but... it's only fair. She pauses and begins to take off her signature Sigmund Corp jacket, then pauses with it halfway off her shoulders.]

She sits with a tiny green chameleon, legs crossed with her purple dress and shirt, long.....loooong blonde hair loose for a change splayed and trailing against the grass nearby as she finds a clearing in the woods to practice getting the hang of these emotions farther from the more populated areas.

She closes her eyes, trying to invoke a happier memory for starters, producing literal brightness in the air along with some daisies against the green grass. Pascal claps and chirps, giving her a nudge to see her progress.]

It worked? It worked! Look at that, Pascal! Isn't that amazing?!

[Once she has been here a while, and gotten kind of more used to using the amulet at least. Once she's been here long enough for the excitement and curiosity to die down a little from the initial arrival and being somewhere new. Long enough to start feeling homesick. Rapunzel appears with Pascal at her shoulder, her long blonde hair trailing behind and around her on her bed as she sits crosslegged on it, her purple skirt splaying on the blankets. She runs her fingers through her hair in nervous, upset habit as Pascal gestures, seeming to try encourage her.]

So um. For those of you that have been here a while. How do you deal with it? Being away from home? From your family or friends? I mean, of course I'm glad I still have Pascal, but. That doesn't mean I don't miss Eugene. Or Cass or my parents.

[She missed her parents on her journey outside Corona back home and look how that turned out. Rapunzel doesn't always have the best coping strategies.....]

Rapunzel never got to play in the leaves or rake them back home in the tower. And well, obviously the castle had staff to take care of the cleaning so she never had a chance there either. But here, in Verens, she can make up for that.]

[Yes, she is using her hair as a swing via a nearby tree to then launch herself right at the pile of leaves, laughing as Pascal holds on to her sleeve for dear life.]

Doug really shouldn't have taken this on. It's not that he minded hard work or anything but he'd definitely agreed to too much work that he wasn't particularly good at. The flapjacks had seemed like a good idea when he first agreed to cover some of the shifts for the lady.

But now, he was starting to think twice an hour or two into the second shift he was covering. The customers really were somewhat difficult.

"I wonder if I can get someone to cover me," he says to no one in particular but he'd have hoped not in hearing range of paying customers. The tips were about all that was making it worth it anymore because he's already tired of flapjacks.

[ If Doug had seen someone get carried off by a kite he likely wouldn't have picked one up to fly. It's been a while since he's flown a kite but it's easy enough to get it going.

It doesn't take very long to notice that it's got a bit of a mind of it's own and he has to struggle against it.

When it starts to pull him into the air he promptly lets go, somewhere between disappointed and amused as he looks at the troublesome kite. ]

[ For Yui's part, she has a strong sense of duty. This means that the leaves are going to get properly cleaned up as long as she is around! Though, honestly, there's not much she can do to stop anyone from messing them up and she's the type to get very easily pulled into nonsense.

As she finishes up one pile, she her brow on the back of her forearm and looks at the first pile. There's still more to go, but the crisp air is refreshing so she can't help but smile. ]

It's refreshing to know what season it's going to be tomorrow, at least.

[ How.. did she get pulled into this? Yui has never been an art model before! She also has no idea how she keeps getting pulled into things left and right, she's not even at the whims of gods anymore!! Though realistically, she never stood a chance against them either and more or less just handled the situations as they came at her... and it was worth it in the end, every second.

Perhaps that's the attitude she should have here too. Of course, that doesn't save the fact that she looks a cross between tensely nervous and determined that makes for honestly a bad expression for any real art. She might need someone to get her to calm down a little before she's useful for any kind of drawing. ]

[ These were definitely the sort of thing that Yui hasn't done since she was a kid but for once, she's finding somethign to do at her own pace. Ahh, it's been so long since she's had something normal to remind her of home, and finding a pair of roller skates is just the sort of little thing that helps.

Things seem to be going okay until, well.. she realizes that even if she can get going, roller skating is awfully unlike riding a bike- you do forget how to do it, and she's not quite sure how to operate the breaks! This becomes readily apparent as she skates down a hill in a park. ]

Help!

[ She tried breaking and only managed to trip herself a couple times before going right back to the wheels refusing to stop turning beneath her feet!! Help a girl out? ]

[ Jaune hears the cry for help and immediately jumps to action. He's always been the type to do that, of course, leaping into a hole to save someone before thinking about the next logical step, which would be how to climb out of it. In this case, he knows he's never going to catch up to her on foot, but her initial few tumbles slow her down at least. He can reach her, and he knows exactly how!

Jaune front flips ahead and starts surfing on his shield, which gives him enough speed to catch up to her. This is also the part that he didn't think completely through, and will likely end in disaster just as foretold in the gif.

For now, he's right next to her, reaching for her while he wobbles on his shield. ]

[ A-Ling. Dark clouds sweep into the sky, devouring the warm sunlight and blue sky. He breathes in slow as his expression twists into something like agony. The clouds twist and build into one another as the air grows colder and colder. His hands slide up to rub his face. Where are you? A cold snap races across the ground as he feels a similar chill grip his heart.

Jiang Cheng can feel how his fingers tremble against his face even as he attempts to keep them steady. He has been attempting to keep his worry for his nephew a secret, but the environment changes to out him. Jin Ling is his precious kin; his only kin left alive. No matter how hard he is on him, he would never want to not be at his nephew's side to protect him, to watch over him, to not allow anyone to speak even one poor word to him.

And yet, here he is. The storm clouds continue to gather as freezing rain starts to pour down. Be safe. Please be safe, A-Ling. ]

Prompt D-3

What are you doing?

[ The dark clouds that have been following Jiang Cheng has finally parted just a little as he feels confusion over watching people flying kites. He looks around not that kites are unfamiliar to him, but where is anyone's bow and arrow? Are they simply flying kites without attempting to better their archery?

The air starts to feel heavy with heat as he glares up towards the kites themselves with no real love for the whimsy of it all. He points at one of the hovering paper diamonds. ]

This is a farce. Shoot that thing down right away, or else lose your ability to keep flying it. [ He feels so anxious about not knowing where Jin Ling is that he's starting to discipline those that simply have the misfortune of being around him. ]

Prompt C

[ Jiang Cheng is not a fan of this tool that has been given to him. It is something that apparently allows for telepathic communication. At first, he attempts to try to go without it, but realizes that he has to use it. He takes in a deep breath as he sorts out his thoughts, attempts to sort out all his worry that has driven him to feel very much like a raw, exposed nerve. ]

Jin Ling! If you have had this device this entire time and not attempted to contact me, I am going to break your legs!

[ An old and familiar threat that he has given to his nephew for disobeying him. He hopes that is enough for Jin Ling, if he is here, to know who is calling for him. Jiang Cheng attempts to hide his concern and panic underneath anger and rage; it pours out in his words and the threat very much sounds real. ]

[When that cold rain starts coming down, Jiang Cheng might hear a familiar voice suddenly yell out in dismay--Wei Wuxian had noticed the sudden drop in temperature, but rain! Rain is too much! He didn't bring an umbrella!]

[He hasn't yet noticed where the rain is coming from, apparently...though he does start looking around for the source, after that initial reaction. Sudden weather changes have got to be because of that feelings magic, right?]

[ although rei is still pretty scared of the thought of spirits and all that, the reward of unlimited candy is very tempting and that's what pushes her through. in this world, she needs money to get her food so she should jump on any opportunity to get a bunch of free food so she has to be brave! she must get through it! ... though she probably dragged someone along with her (aka you) ]

[ she's trying to sound brave, her knees are clearly shaking. please, o great pumpkin spirit, come quickly so she can get her prize...! ]

[ rei knows that she's supposed to picking up all the leaves in the already swept up piles and placing them into bags but she really really really has the temptation to do a running dive into one of them. after all, she's never had the chance to really play with leaves (or doing it at a time that she could remember) so she wants to experience having fun with them! however, she doesn't really have the courage to just go and do it by herself so she turns her head to her leaf-collecting partner and tugs on their sleeve. ]

[ the thing about putting bunny ears on an already very bubbly girl is that you get Extreme Bubbliness. she's probably still very nervous about being on her own without anyone she knows and definitely without zen but having these ears on? it's like all of her worries go away so with them, she has no fear!! and will walk up to anyone, no matter how much they look like they probably don't want to be bothered at all. ]

[animal ears of any kind! the person handing these out seemed to be particularly excited about the idea of people wearing animal ears. jake was never really into halloween or anything like that, so this was just... odd. however he was handed a pair of ears, what looked to be wolf's ears, and he just walked away with the stupid accessory.

really, this was just strange. jake shrugged and put the headband on, feeling pretty foolish with them on. he looked over at the nearest person who had also put on the headband and he scoffed at them.]

I was never into dress-up. You? [though jake did suddenly have the biggest urge to... scream? howl? or rather, he just wanted to eat some meat right about now.]

[ some of the tasks currently up are a little outside of his abilities, but walking other dogs and cats can't be that bad, right? koromaru has never done anything like this before and is usually the one taking direction, but he's smart with good instincts, which have made him able to get the other animals to follow his direction. he has the easiest time with walking the dogs (naturally) but the cats are a little trickier; he breaks away occasionally to bring back one that's wandered off, teeth carefully gripping the scruff of the cat's fur before placing it back down with the rest of the group.

in any case, it's still an odd sight seeing a dog herding a bunch of animals. he's doing his best, okay. ]

[ kites are cool, kites are pretty great. what's not so great is that they're kind of hard to manage when you're a dog and don't really have proper hands to work with. he also doesn't really know how to actually fly one, but he really wants to try, which is why he currently has the kite held in his mouth as he walks around in hopes of finding someone who can give him a hand. literally.

he'll approach the first person he spots, giving a small bark around the kite in his mouth to get their attention as he sits on his haunches, tail wagging back and forth gently as he waits. will you be the one to help him today? ]

but maybe the person who found him thought he could relate to the parrot maybe, even though koromaru is mostly unsure as to what's actually happening. koromaru has led a relatively simple dog life aside from his adventures with SEES, so he's mainly wondering why the family can't just share the family property and the goods in the vault. so while everyone else is debating, koromaru sits quietly on the side, head resting on top of his paws as he waits for the verdict.

[ Koromaru's being rescued from the jury duty, that's what he's doing here.

Minato had some previous experience with kites, but this one is particularly spirited. To that extent that Minato gets spirited away up high in the air. It's all good, though. Instead of freaking out, he just goes with the flow, enjoys the view, and wonders where the kite of fate is going to lead him.

Apparently, it's the court's rooftop. Is fate trying to tell him something? Should he strive to become a better person? Or, perhaps, he should become an attorney? Whatever it is, Minato's stuck here...the thing is that it doesn't last for too long, anyway. Will he ever find stability in his life? The answer might be no.

After the first cracking sound, he should have realized that something isn't right with the rooftop. It must have been made of some questionable materials because Minato ends up in the middle of a courtroom all of a sudden, with the kite still in his hand. Looking up and seeing that big hole in the roof makes it clear that whoever was in charge of building the court, didn't do a great job. This definitely a material for another trial, but rather than thinking about that, Minato's eyes open wide when he sees a familiar figure among the jury duty people. ]

Koromaru?

[ Judge's eyes are on Minato and they definitely demand some kind of an explanation, even if they can tell that the boy didn't barge in here intentionally. ]

[ A job that involves tracking cats down is something right up Kaori's alley, so it shouldn't be a surprise that she's looking around for clues. After a while, he finally finds her first one—a trail of rainbow which should mean that a Nyan-Kitty should be somewhere near. ]

Where are you, Kitty? I'm here to save you. [ A hint of a rainbow behind a few trash bins makes it much easier to track the cat. Kaori steps in quietly and carefully and picks up the Nyan-Kitty from the ground. ]

Got you! Oh gosh, you're so cute. I wonder if I can take you home?

[ The cat isn't too thrilled about being caught, but it's not scratching or biting...yet... ]

[ Saying no to a cute cat ears headband was never an option and it will never be an option. The thing is...nothing really changes much after she wears it. Maybe she's just too cat-like already? Who knows. Whether it's the headbands influence or not, she can be seen knocking stuff off the table. Is that a drink you left here sometime before? Sorry, it's on the floor now.

[ Don't get her wrong, arts and dancing are great, but what she's been looking for was a violin. Maybe a piano. Perhaps she wasn't looking hard enough, but Kaori finds none of those and joins a rap battle instead. Are you ready for some sick rhymes? This is going to be so bad. ]

Prompt B - Task Board. ST1002

[Vados has always enjoyed sampling sweets in various worlds. While she doesn't need half of the sweets in the entire world, it will certainly give her a large selection to choose from. Provided this isn't simply a prank. And if it is? No harm done. Vados can appreciate some harmless mischief. So here she is, waiting around in a pumpkin patch.

In the meantime, she has her staff to gaze into to try to get some further information about this strange world she's found herself in. She's gotten the basic explanation, yes, but since her attempts at leaving proved to be potentially lethal, it seems she'll have to investigate far more.

She doesn't look up from gazing into the orb on her staff when someone approaches.]

Prompt E - Battle Poetry

[For the moment, Vados has sat back and watched other people compete to observe how it's done. She's quite amused that what amounts to rhythmic insult-slinging is apparently an art form here. Some of the competitors are fairly skilled at this, and she finds herself applauding one especially creative performer.

She's not sure if she wants to try it just yet. There aren't many people she truly knows well enough to dish out a string of artfully insulting prose at, and while this is very entertaining, she's not out to seriously offend anyone here today. She'd have to pick someone who could take some playful ribbing with good humour, and that means paying attention to the crowd and judging individual people's temperaments.

For now, she turns to the nearest person, a little smile on her face.]

Prompt F - Treasure Trove

[This has been an interesting exercise in participating in the mortal justice system, and Vados has been patiently offering her insight to the rest of the jury. Finally, they've reached a resolution and they're opening the vault. She has to admit, she's been curious as to what sort of valuables the tycoon's family has been arguing over to the point of needing formal mediation.

Then the magazines emerge and...oh. So the tycoon was this kind of person. She can't help but feel a bit annoyed at how her time was wasted.]

How utterly anticlimatic and disappointing.

[She passes the magazine she was given to someone else in the courtroom.]

[Since discovering that there are some people around here who are noticeably not normal baseline humans and that they're left alone by the general population, Lorna has been a little more free about the use of her magnetism. One open albeit quite harmless display of her powers got her recruited for this job. Protect a statue from being stolen. That had seemed easy enough, and Lorna's got an axe to grind with thieves after being manipulated by one. She will gladly help to capture thieves and brought a couple of chains with her to bind them.

It's only now that she's at the museum that she's gotten a better look at the job description. The best fighters are needed for this task. Guess who has no combat training whatsoever? Lorna. She's now looking very unsure of herself.]

Um...I think there's been some sort of mistake here.

Prompt D - Let's Go Fly a Kite

[It's been over half a decade since Lorna last flew a kite. She remembers being ten and spending a few hours on the shore of Genosha. A family picnic with her father, sister and brother, and some time spent flying a beautifully crafted kite. The memory brings a smile to Lorna's face, but it's short lived as it sinks in that memories like that are firmly in the past. Now her family is divided, and who knows if she'll ever be able to sit down for a meal with them all together ever again.

Lorna looks sadly at the kite, then shakes her head. She's determined to enjoy this. Hadn't she wanted to see the outside world? Well, she got her wish, and she's going to make the best of it.

She lets her kite soar in the air, and for a moment, she's able to forget about the past and imagine herself flying as freely as the kite is.

And then it happens. Her feet leave the ground. She lets out an exclamation of alarm when she realizes that her feet are no longer planted on the ground.]

Aaaaaaah! This is some very strong wind!

[Then she notices she's not the only one up in the sky. She can harness magnetic fields to keep herself safe if need be, but she's not so sure about the other person.]

[ When he first arrived here he never even considered using the emotional powers for his own use. He doesn't have a need for it, what with being so powerful already, given the Hougyoku's influence and power. But for his own amusement today he'll actually give it a shot and he doesn't even have to really try to get the results he's experimenting with.

It'll happen in an instant where the ground he touches turns to a thick sheet of ice and snow will fall lazily around him in a dome like manner. Aizen doesn't look impressed but mostly bored by the endeavor though. The air around him could chill a person to the bone in an instant however so it's best to keep your distance lest you want frostbite. Aizen seems perfectly fine, however, but that's to be expected given how utterly cold and ruthless he is. ] Oh? Is this really all there is to it?

[ A pity he was expecting something more. ]

ST1006 - Garm hunting

[ It's not as is if he actually cares about this particular problem. After all if people can't fight and defend themselves that's of little consequence to him. But what is a problem is when his subjects of experimenting are inconveniently wiped out. After all he's hardly had enough time to determine their usefulness. And who knows there might be something worthwhile here to obtain for his own means, whether it be a person or object. So he'll make quick work of the beasts disappearing in the blink of an eye only to appear behind them as their bodies crumple to the ground. There's still more of them and they look to be surrounding Aizen with heated snarls and snapping jaws. He remains unfazed though, like this is nothing. ]

No amount of numbers will help you. [ He'll say in the calmest of tones which is even more chilling than the Garm surrounding him. ]

Prompt E - Life drawing

[ Well if Aizen is your partner for this particular class he's rather amused and bored all the same. He'll be the one doing the posing for now just because he hardly wants to waste his time drawing someone else. He's a big egotistical jerk, sorry! ] Are you finished yet?

[ Asked with no small amount of sarcasm in his tone. ]
