Test Drive: AUGUST
Welcome to
empatheias' test drive meme. This test drive is to help interested players test their characters in the game's environment. We've included a few prompts that incorporate specific elements of the game, though you'll find all of them have a lot of leeway for players to get as creative as necessary. Before diving in, here are a few things we'd like to remind everyone about the game in general:- Date reminders. Reserves open 25 July and Applications (Canon | OC) open a week later on August 1st. Apps will only be open for four days!
- OC Reminder! Just a quick reminder that original characters are allowed. Those interested can also use the test drive. OCs do not need to be reserved.
- Emotions are key! Empatheias' premise focuses on how anyone's emotions can affect their environment, be it big or small. While not every emotion will cause a reaction, significant ones definitely will. How much effect a character will have will ultimately be up to you, the player. Also, while we're giving a lot of leeway for the test drive, keep in mind that there will be some limits in the actual game.
- Everyone has an amulet. All characters have a unique amulet that is specialized for them. It will contain all of their emotion drops and it serves as the network device. Remember, communication is telepathic. Otherwise, it works basically the same.
- Assume the character is already in the game. Because "OMG WHERE AM I IS THIS REAL LIFE" threads aren't going to be very helpful in this test drive! Plus, those are going to happen in-game, anyway. So to make things easier, just assume that they've been around at least a week or so. Still learning the ropes, but not a complete "first day" experience.
- First or third person allowed. Your threads can be in either first or third, but we'd advise being flexible about it. Remember, these threads can also be used in your application for samples! Reminder: We only require one sample and it can be done in either format. We have also made a change to our sample requirements, so look over the Applications page!
- Transfer to in-game. If accepted, you can assume threads made on the Test Drive happen in-game if the scenario can reasonably fit. For new characters, these threads do not count for activity check. However, these can be supplementary threads for players already in-game.
- For your threads, put the Character Name and the Canon in the subject line to help readily identify them. You're also welcome to use more than one prompt for respondents to choose from. If you have any questions or want to brush up on the game information, refer to the Game Information entry. Otherwise, tag around and have fun!
Now with that out of the way, here are some prompts you guys can work from!
• Prompt A: How about giving the emotions a try?
• Prompt B: Refer to the Task Board and choose a task your character may be interested in taking up. For this prompt, you could have your character ask for help, already be in the middle of the job, or react to it in some way. Perhaps they were an unfortunate victim or want to create a job countering an existing one. You could even have a prompt making a job request. Creating jobs for the purpose of the test drive is absolutely doable.
• Prompt C: How about giving the amulets a go? Start a telepathic conversation and see how it works. Remember, the amulets are sending out the owner's thoughts so might want to be careful about how the stream of consciousness goes...
• Prompt D: Mystery boxes have begun to turn up not only on people’s doorsteps but also anywhere they go - at their workplaces, dropped off on their cafe tables, even falling out of trees or windows right in front of them. There is nothing special about the boxes themselves - nothing is written on them and they are made out of generic cardboard - but they may contain items such as a set of cute furry animal figurines, a ring of old tarnished keys, or a fancy but stained secondhand fedora. Others, however, have more sinister, mysterious contents, such as a black coat with a muddy hem, a blood-spattered kitchen knife or even what looks like a severed bloody finger. Ask around about who has been leaving these boxes all over the place, and you will get conflicting reports. Otherworlders lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a person suddenly in a hurry to leave the scene will learn that this person behind the mystery boxes can appear as a man, or a woman, or neither.
• Prompt E: Receiving a mystery box has its pros and cons. Some items give so much emotion and energy to a person, exaggerating everything they feel and think. It's a good thing at times, because when one is happy, they truly are HAPPY! When one feels like they're on top of the world, they may end up floating! However, there are instances in which the other person feels like they're drowning due to sadness, in which case, they may feel like they're underwater and need air to breathe. Don't worry! In times like these, all you need is a slap in the face to make you feel better! Or if that's too physically hurtful, others have discovered that crying stops the hyperbole of emotions, too.
• Prompt F: Investigations eventually lead to the founder of the cryptocurrency EmoGold who goes by the pseudonym "Sato" to be the one sending out mystery boxes to people. It seems the emotional currency has taken a dive in terms of exchange rate between EmoGold and Sylvs that he thought giving out mystery boxes to people would make them want to learn more about EmoGold and mining… sadly that didn't work and only proceeded to creep people out! "Sato" is now under custody of the Enforcers, and all the furniture in his house (strange and unique as they may be) is now up for auction! A lamp that looks like a cow and shoots light out of its eyes for 5,000 sylvs going once… going twice… SOLD!
• Prompt G: Make your own! It could include forks and/or snow.
Same reason I chose it, ngl!
I agree! We need to find them somewhere they'll absolutely love, so they don't return. Last thing I want to see is for them to get hurt...
[But now the question was: how to move them? Where should they take them? What would be a good home for them? Nike will remain silent until.]
Hey, you guys. [She was talking to the sprites which many will stop their travelling around the shop to look up at her. Eyes on her.] Oh? So you guys understand me? [A squeaky sound will be all that is given to Nike in response.] Well, good enough. Um, do you mind doing us a favor? By leaving this shop and finding somewhere else to live in? I think....you'd be happier somewhere bigger and with lots of different treasures to find and carry around. [The sprites will give Nike odd looks before turning to one another, almost as though they don't understand the reasoning behind leaving such a lovely spot. They don't mind the space! This place was lovely enough for them! Those were the murmurs between them which....Nike had no idea was the way they felt.
Her gaze will turn to Rapunzel.]
About your earlier plan? On sweeping them? Wanna try it? [A pause.] Um, do we have anything to sweep them into? Like a bag? It doesn't seem they understand our language all too well??? [Or maybe the sprites do, the language barrier may just be on their end.]
Ghibli forever my weakness. Too cute.
[Rapunzel bites her lip, giving a shrug but is as always, mindful of Pascal at her shoulder. She brushes some hair behind her ear a bit more as she glances around for something that could be used at least as transport.]
Well, we can ask the owner? I'm sure there's some kind of bag or container they wouldn't mind us using if it means we help get these little guys out of the way.
Ghibli is always welcomed into rp any time! Soot sprites, especially.
[It was clear they were both in agreement over the matter. Neither one of them understood the sprites. Which was kinda bad. It made things a little harder.
But after the next suggestion, Nike will begin to search around the workshop. Finding something to clean with shouldn't be that difficult to find. Who didn't have something to sweep with? After some time searching, Nike will offer Rapunzel.]
Didn't find a broomstick, but I did find this. [It was a whisk broom and small dust pan.] Were you able to find anything to carry our new friends in?
I would absolutely do Ghibli au things or something. Have seen some cute art
[Not exactly? Since....they are soot. Alas. Still, they sure were adorable and she wants to try help. Which is why she asks and acquires a bag of sorts to help them, with the ability to keep the top part of it open so the soot can still...er, well she isn't sure if they need to breathe exactly, but.
Rapunzel holds it, showing Nike and shifting to position for Nike to sweep.]
We just need to get you guys in here, okay? Then we can try find somewhere better for you.
Oh, definitely! Ghibli has a lot of ideas we can use. Cute fanart is a must!
[The look on Nike's face may just be pure admiration. Meeting someone with an amazing power like that? She can't help but begin to glitter like the stars in the sky. Just that pause will be more than enough for the sprites to stare at the giants above them. A few curious murmurs will be given between them as none of them understood the meaning behind the taller giant's words of "find somewhere better for them". Do they need to repeat themselves to them?
Nike will take Rapunzel's explanation to the sprites as cue to begin sweeping the critters into the bag the other girl has proved for them.]
I'll try to be gentle. Um, sorry if anyone gets hurt or--
[As Nike sweeps into the dustpan, she'll notice the sprites had lost their shape and look like actual dust. Placing them into the bag, a small rain cloud will begin to form over Nike's head.]
Um, are they okay? [The dust hill inside the bag wasn't changing....]
I would love Ghibli au things in musebox. Yes.
[Well, at least. Basically everyone talked to animals somehow or other, whether or not the animals actually understood or listened might be another matter but. It isn't so strange for Rapunzel? Given she sees the guards and everyone else talking to Max and all back home.
Still, she blinks, glancing to the soot once it has been swept up a bit.]
I don't know? Is that supposed to happen.....? I mean, they are soot, but....
We shall discuss further in your plotting plurk!
Noticing the way the other girl had no explanation for it, Nike can only assume it wasn't....exactly a normal thing to happen? At the very least, she was as lost as Rapunzel was which will increase the size of the rain cloud above her head.]
T-True. They are made of soot. As far as we can see... But... [It was difficult to determine if it was normal or not. Nike will look down at the ground, wondering.] Think if we gave them some of their stuff back, then they'll be okay?
Yes. Please.
[As long as whoever arranged removing the soot sprites was okay with it, she doesn't see any reason not to give it a go and see if that might help. Maybe once they get out of the bag to wherever the girls were taking them, the sprites might get back to normal. She's never quite encountered this to be sure.]

[Anything to help learn more about the soot sprites. If they accidentally harmed them, then it's a learning experience, even if Nike's heart will grow heavy. The thought alone was enough to make the small cloud above her head begin to rumble, almost imitating the way she felt at the moment.
Nike will pick up one of the small rusted nails and worn out shoelaces from the ground and place them inside the bag with the hope it'll help the sprites recover. After a moment or two of staring at the bag, Nike will begin to lose hope as rain drops will be felt lightly drizzling over her head, not gaining much of a reaction until some of the sprites will begin to wiggle. Nike's eyes will open wide at the realization that.]
Look, Rapunzel! Look. It's moving! They're okay!
[Some of the sprite pile will begin to take shape as hands and tiny feet will sprout along with their eyes while other soots will simply look fluffly but seem to be hovering a bit. Those with eyes and tiny legs and feet will glare at the giants above as they begin to complain in squeaky voices over the reason behind being collected the way they were.]

[If there isn't already somewhere arranged. Rapunzel is just wanting to help the little creatures and get them out of the way of the current owner of this place. She hadn't thought that far ahead in focusing on getting them out of here first and foremost.
But she is relieved when she peers in and notices movement in there among the soot.]

[From the way some of the sprites were now touching and holding the items she had returned, it was clear they only reformed for that and to make a lot of noise. There had to be somewhere safe to take them, but it was clear neither one of them thought far ahead.
It's the reason she'll turn to Rapunzel.]
Maybe one of us should take them home, and get them off the hands of the owner of this place...? I don't mind sharing a corner with them back at my place. [A sheepish smile will be given as she looks away.] ...there's too much space where I'm at with me being new and all... [It's lonesome living on her own, but there isn't much she can do about it other than.] Or we could always do additional research? I saw this world's library is really amazing. Would you like to go and see it with me? Um, if you don't mind that is.... [Cause if she wants to get paid and call it a day, Nike wouldn't stop her.]

[But if Nike had somewhere and they could stay there at least temporarily, that could work. Rapunzel is relieved and gives a smile and nod at that.]
And yeah, we can check the library or ask with the amulets if anyone else is familiar with them and how to care for them.
