TEST DRIVE: July
Welcome to
empatheias' test drive meme. This test drive is to help interested players test their characters in the game's environment. We've included a few prompts that incorporate specific elements of the game, though you'll find all of them have a lot of leeway for players to get as creative as necessary. Before diving in, here are a few things we'd like to remind everyone about the game in general:- Date reminders. Reserves open 24th of June and Applications (Canon | OC) open a week later on July 1st. Apps will only be open for four days!
- OC Reminder! Just a quick reminder that original characters are allowed. Those interested can also use the test drive. OCs do not need to be reserved.
- Emotions are key! Empatheias' premise focuses on how anyone's emotions can affect their environment, be it big or small. While not every emotion will cause a reaction, significant ones definitely will. How much effect a character will have will ultimately be up to you, the player. Also, while we're giving a lot of leeway for the test drive, keep in mind that there will be some limits in the actual game.
- Everyone has an amulet. All characters have a unique amulet that is specialized for them. It will contain all of their emotion drops and it serves as the network device. Remember, communication is telepathic. Otherwise, it works basically the same.
- Assume the character is already in the game. Because "OMG WHERE AM I IS THIS REAL LIFE" threads aren't going to be very helpful in this test drive! Plus, those are going to happen in-game, anyway. So to make things easier, just assume that they've been around at least a week or so. Still learning the ropes, but not a complete "first day" experience.
- First or third person allowed. Your threads can be in either first or third, but we'd advise being flexible about it. Remember, these threads can also be used in your application for samples! Reminder: We only require one sample and it can be done in either format. We have also made a change to our sample requirements, so look over the Applications page!
- Transfer to in-game. If accepted, you can assume threads made on the Test Drive happen in-game if the scenario can reasonably fit. For new characters, these threads do not count for activity check. However, these can be supplementary threads for players already in-game.
- For your threads, put the Character Name and the Canon in the subject line to help readily identify them. You're also welcome to use more than one prompt for respondents to choose from. If you have any questions or want to brush up on the game information, refer to the Game Information entry. Otherwise, tag around and have fun!
Now with that out of the way, here are some prompts you guys can work from!
• Prompt A: How about giving the emotions a try?
• Prompt B: Refer to the Task Board and choose a task your character may be interested in taking up. For this prompt, you could have your character ask for help, already be in the middle of the job, or react to it in some way. Perhaps they were an unfortunate victim or want to create a job countering an existing one. You could even have a prompt making a job request. Creating jobs for the purpose of the test drive is absolutely doable.
• Prompt C: How about giving the amulets a go? Start a telepathic conversation and see how it works. Remember, the amulets are sending out the owner's thoughts so might want to be careful about how the stream of consciousness goes...
• Prompt D: It's been a few weeks since the city of Verens has been covered in steam. It's not so bad for some people! In fact, most establishments are saving so much money because the steam helps power their appliances and the like without the need for elemental cores. It does, however, also mean that people aren't acting the way they should. You might be one such person, or you could be trying to face your inner demons - the part of you you've always been resisting, but it's there, ever present… it's time to reach out to the truth and face yourself head on.
• Prompt E: The steam has caused a good number of people to flee from Verens to Theasthai. Here, the well-known playwright Matthew Floyd Ebber has seized this opportunity to recruit both locals and Otherworlders for the production performance of his new play entitled Hats, which he hopes would be a much bigger hit than Doves Never Lie. For a small fee (or free tickets, or maybe you just wanted to help), you have been persuaded to join in as his staff to make props, set up the backdrops and stage, experiment with emotion magic to produce various special effects, or even be extras in a huge crowd scene where everyone wears different hats with varying emotional effects ranging from calming the wearer to causing the wearer to pick a fight with the nearest person. Be warned that Mr. Ebber can be a little… overexcited and overbearing with his new masterpiece, and he will constantly redo the crowd scene until he is satisfied.
• Prompt F: If the artistic flair of Theasthai doesn’t suit you, then perhaps the more rugged Shaarnath will offer enough to occupy your time while you avoid the steam. The citizens of this desert city are readying their defenses in the event that a being such as GEM makes its way to their walls. A key component of this is, of course, the training of wyverns, and all hands are on deck to see to it that these creatures are fit for battle. Tasks to achieve this include not only feeding them (watch your fingers!) and cleaning their scales (it does get awfully gritty with all that sand around), but also sparring with the wyverns. How are you with a spear? Hopefully decent, because you just might be asked to hold your own against these creatures to test their skills!
• Prompt G: Make your own! It could include apples and/or butterflies.

Trying and failing at a task. Someone wants people to retrieve these carpets, but as I see it, they're stubborn jerks... [Bye bye, says the carpet.] Hey!! I'm talking with her, turn back around you stupid-! Mikasa, take my hand.
[He reaches out for her in hopes her super strength would help to stop the stupid carpet. But she's also welcome to just, you know, jump on.]
Shining, shimmering splendid
Ah, so you didn't just randomly step on it. [It's not kidnapping him, why is Jean so rude at it? Mikasa looks at them fighting there, sighs --] It's not going to come down like that unless you're glued to it.
[She could pull Jean away from it with her strength, no doubt about that... But instead of doing that, Mikasa reaches out to his hand to help her get up there. Not that she'd possibly need the help considering this is Mikasa but let's pretend she needs it. Also maybe she should sit down but she's currently standing there. That's not so different from standing on a galloping horse in her opinion, so she's not worried about herself at all!]
Tell me princess, now when did you last let your heart decide?
Then comes the worrying.]
At least sit down! This thing might make sudden turns and drop you.
[At least a horse won't do a barrel roll!!]

[How the fuck does she even argue that? Mikasa huffs, doesn't sit down even though now she's considering it. But he's talking to the girl, who keeps rolling in the air a lot after copying that shit from a midget.... Yes, that's an entirely different thing.
He could pull her down, better do that before the carpet does something weird with how their emotions work here.]

Just. Sit. You promised you'd be careful.
Over sideways and under~
Mikasa could hold on to the carpet, sure, but she trusts her own surviving skills more than his and she is absolutely not going to let him fall from this unsteady ride without her... So, guess again, Jean! Even though she is still blushing and this is only going to make it worse, she is also suddenly wrapping her arms around him. If she knew what a seatbelt is, she'd call this something like that.
Anyway she looks fiercely determined to keep him there with her, no matter what this carpet decides to do!]
On a magic carpet ride~
His heart is beating very fast and he looks flustered. There's the fluttering excitement which makes the carpet go higher - but at least keep the ride steady? Just not going to go down in a while.]

A WHOLE NEW WOOOOOOOORLD
Besides the unbelievable sights from the carpet going higher make it easy to focus on something else. She looks totally amazed by watching the world from a view like this, it's exciting and interesting and this is totally better than fine. ]
I don't mind. [Wow. So good with expressing how she feels, thank you, Mikasa.]
[The world on the other hand is better at putting her feelings into itself... Is there some weird sparkling in the air? Flowers around here where they shouldn't be, warm breeze that goes around excitedly too and maybe the warm air is not just because of the blushes and closeness... This sure is one way of many beautiful ways how she loves seeing the world.]
~A new fantastic point of view~
Jean sure enough is most of the reason why it's kinda very warm despite the winds up there, but as he's watching the effects around, the temperature cools down a bit now that he has something else than 'omg I'm so close to Mikasa' to think about. Even if the focus is still Mikasa, he's more relieved than anything, to see her this content with something.
It seems the carpet is agreeing with this change in mood and giving them a better tour of the place.]
No one to tell us no
Maybe there are ways to see the other cities in a way like this too.
[ Bri isn't the prettiest, she admits it in her head but this is still nice and much better than airships. Not that Mikasa has ever been in an airship, maybe that would be great too... But this is ... Different, more personal and cute. ]

Slowly, some some more flowers join Mikasa's, with some flower petals flying around as well. He remembers to actually stop staring at Mikasa so he doesn't come off as a creep and watches the world around them as well.]
