Test Drive: May
Welcome to
![[community profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/community.png)
- Date reminders. Reserves open 24th of April and Applications (Canon | OC) open a week later on May 1st. Apps will only be open for four days!
- OC Reminder! Just a quick reminder that original characters are allowed. Those interested can also use the test drive. OCs do not need to be reserved.
- Emotions are key! Empatheias' premise focuses on how anyone's emotions can affect their environment, be it big or small. While not every emotion will cause a reaction, significant ones definitely will. How much effect a character will have will ultimately be up to you, the player. Also, while we're giving a lot of leeway for the test drive, keep in mind that there will be some limits in the actual game.
- Everyone has an amulet. All characters have a unique amulet that is specialized for them. It will contain all of their emotion drops and it serves as the network device. Remember, communication is telepathic. Otherwise, it works basically the same.
- Assume the character is already in the game. Because "OMG WHERE AM I IS THIS REAL LIFE" threads aren't going to be very helpful in this test drive! Plus, those are going to happen in-game, anyway. So to make things easier, just assume that they've been around at least a week or so. Still learning the ropes, but not a complete "first day" experience.
- First or third person allowed. Your threads can be in either first or third, but we'd advise being flexible about it. Remember, these threads can also be used in your application for samples! Reminder: We only require one sample and it can be done in either format. We have also made a change to our sample requirements, so look over the Applications page!
- Transfer to in-game. If accepted, you can assume threads made on the Test Drive happen in-game if the scenario can reasonably fit. For new characters, these threads do not count for activity check. However, these can be supplementary threads for players already in-game.
- For your threads, put the Character Name and the Canon in the subject line to help readily identify them. You're also welcome to use more than one prompt for respondents to choose from. If you have any questions or want to brush up on the game information, refer to the Game Information entry. Otherwise, tag around and have fun!
- For any concerns or questions, head over to this top level.
Now with that out of the way, here are some prompts you guys can work from!
• PROMPT A: How about giving the emotions a try?
• PROMPT B: Refer to the Task Board and choose a task your character may be interested in taking up. For this prompt, you could have your character ask for help, already be in the middle of the job, or react to it in some way. Perhaps they were an unfortunate victim or want to create a job countering an existing one. You could even have a prompt making a job request. Creating jobs for the purpose of the test drive is absolutely doable.
• PROMPT C: How about giving the amulets a go? Start a telepathic conversation and see how it works. Remember, the amulets are sending out the owner's thoughts so might want to be careful about how the stream of consciousness goes...
• PROMPT D: Perhaps one may have heard that Verens used to be a floating island, and it was! When the island then ended up on the surface, creatures which explorers have called "Dinosaurs" (quotation marks included) were discovered inhabiting the plains and the mountains in a far off area. It's time to go back to the jurassic world for a very important mission: gather as many Amaranthus Rubus, red pearl-shaped fruits that heal any and all wounds on one's skin. The hospital needs it! As such, one needs to prepare.
Explorers do not wish to harm the "Dinosaurs", as they are afraid the "Dinosaurs" would go extinct should any danger be placed unto them. This means that one's option when encountering volatile and aggressive "Dinosaurs" is to run away. A fun run is now being held in Verens a few days prior to the trip to the "Dinosaur" plains, where 50 sylvs and a t-shirt that says "I successfully ran away from a 'Dinosaur'!". The colour of the shirt is random, though, but there are as many as the colours of the rainbow. Maybe trade with somebody else who's finished the run if you don't like yellow so much.
• PROMPT E: Once the preparations have been made, it's time to set forth into the land of the “Dinosaurs”. As you enter their domain, it may be difficult to resist the temptation to interact with these rare and unusual creatures, and some of the “dinosaurs” are indeed tranquil and herbivorous. Go ahead and feed the long-necks leafy branches and if you're feeling daring, climb up on their backs for a ride! However, many of the “dinosaurs” are quite a bit more dangerous, and they are very territorial. If you cross paths with the a pack of raptors, prepare to run, fight, or distract. All explorers have been supplied with strips of alluring jerky to placate the beasts. Who knows, you might even make a friend! Be careful not to lose and hand, though.
The Amaranthus Rubus is thickest near the home of the most terrifying “dinosaur” of all, the "Tyrannosaur", and if you are daring enough to approach the lair of this creature to reap the fruits, you may not even have the chance to run away before the creature corners you, roars, and...wiggles his sad, little arms. It seems poor old "Tyrannosaur" just wants some kind of tool to extend his reach! Help him out and he will let you go. Or refuse, and he'll eat you. Sounds reasonable, right?
• PROMPT F: It seems like the land of the "Dinosaurs" isn't so bad after all! Perhaps "Dinosaurs" and man can co-exist, but for that to happen, much research will have to be made regarding a "Dinosaur"'s way of life. Now aboard the ship to head back to the city, researchers are talking about another excursion in the future that's solely for researching on "Dinosaurs" - various species, what they eat, their excrement, and the like.
The trip back to Verens is a little long. Perhaps you're just resting in one of the rooms when there's an explosive sound that can be heard. Oh no! It looks like the engine's running out of steam! Luckily, there's a steam generator in the ship, but steam can only be made through cooperation, anger, and sadness. The entire ship needs your help to get back to the city safely, and if you have to hold someone's hand, slap them, and yell at them to get them to manifest their emotions tangibly, then do so!
• Prompt G: Make your own! It could include swords and/or stones.

The move was still too quick to fully protect himself from as Dollar was pushed back, skidding backwards as it's claws dug into the ground to keep him in place. The damage was noticeable which was surprising to Sun, but not enough to knock the Meowth out yet as it stood back up claws raised to attack.]
Feint attack!
[As Dollar rushed towards his opponent, going for what looked like a flank attack he switched at the last second appearing behind the giant bug to strike. Going for a similar tactic as he did with the Tyrannosaur to try to knock it off balance, the bigger they are the harder they fall!]
no subject
Finish him off—liquidation!
[Welling a surge of water around him, Golisopod uses the shortened distance between them to slam right into Dollar—using both his strength and weight behind the blow, while water erupts around him.]
I wouldn't blame you if you backed down now, it's pretty clear how hopeless this is for you.
no subject
Dollar look out!
[No amount of forewarning could help his Meowth now. They were too close and there was absolutely no time to dodge or react. Like a rag doll Dollar went flying from both the impact and the erupting water only to crumple upon hitting the ground a few feet away. Sun eye's narrowed as he refused to call back his pokemon instead gritting his teeth as he waited with bated breath. It definitely seemed that the match was decided, at least until Dollar shakily got got back up. It was clear it was on it's last leg though, it's paw swiping at an injury on it's face. The air surrounding the battle felt thick, almost suffocating thanks to the magic of this place. It was clear Sun was racking his brain to pull himself outta this mess. Stubborn written clearly on both trainer and pokemon's expressions.]
I'm not leaving till I get what I came for.
[Instead of issuing another command, Dollar changed his stance adopting a defensive one. Perhaps he was aiming to counter whatever Golisopod would throw at him.]
no subject
What's even the point, huh!?
[The stance is an interesting one, but Guzma's none too worried about it.]
Or do you like seein' your Pokèmon in pain? You're one messed up kid—Brick Break!
[Without mercy Golisopod strikes again, aiming to bring his arm down in a chopping motion onto the defensively positioned Meowth, completely disregarding that counter stance.]
no subject
Dollar waited and watched carefully for the opening to counter that it was looking for. Just as the Brick Break was due to connect, it rushed forward dodging underneath Golisopod's giant claw arms and right where it wanted to be. The soft underside to the hard bug.]
Night Slash!
[It was all or nothing at this point, the Meowth positioned again too close to dodge another attack as it hoped to land a critical hit with it's last move.]
no subject
Finish this, Golisopod! Don't let him get the jump on you again!
[It was foolish that he underestimated the stance, but now he knew what to look for, and as such Golisopod readies—seemingly knowing what's going to come next.]
Liquidation!
[Again he envelops himself in gushing water as he slams forth into the weary Meowth.]
no subject
Quick, Pay Day!
[His aim was to use the coins as both a makeshift shield and a sort of smokescreen for Dollar's escape from the close range. The weary Meowth poised to meet the attack head on with his attack in retaliation. His weariness had caught up to him though and he was a second too slow at getting the move off. Once again the poor Meowth was sent flying back. This time however Dollar would not be getting back up.
Silence permeated the thick atmosphere of the battle, Sun's posture rigid as he glowered at the ground. Reluctantly withdrawing his pokemon back to his pokeball. Despite his lose his stubbornness still persisted as he debated what to do. Snapping his eyes back to Guzma, determination still on face he had made a decision.]
If don't want me to get the fruit you'll have to stop me yourself!!
[And with that Sun turns and darts to the nearest growth of the fruit barring plant. He is going to stuff as much fruit as he can in his shirt and YOU CANT STOP HIM.]
no subject
Guzma stares at him for a moment, as does Golisopod. He's certainly something else, but Guzma's not going to let the punk just get away with taking those fruits, especially when he's as sore as he is with this situation. Crossing the distance while the boy tries to gather as many fruits as he can (good luck without a backpack, chump!), he reaches over and grabs the boy by the back of his shirt. Lifting him entirely off the ground by it, like one might do to a skitty with its scruff.]
I ain't got no problem stoppin' ya, kid.
[It's insanely petty, but that's kinda Guzma's thing. Even now, even after everything, he's still likely to be a petty asshole when he's been ruffled like this!]
no subject
Yeah?! What do you even need this fruit for!
[Cuz you know, clearly Sun had the superior reason despite not once mentioning it before.]
no subject
'Cos they heal injuries. Why else would I need 'em? Y'think I'm gonna hand them over to the hospital? Tch!
[Of course this doesn't fully answer the question, does it?]
no subject
not) Considering the Guzma he was familiar with, he's lucky his ass hadn't been handed to him.Despite how full of beans this kid was, Sun did eventually tire from his struggles. He was panting lightly and now just resorting to a glare to show his displeasure. In his squirming he had managed to get a hold of the hand that was holding him up. Not that it helped him in this situation besides perhaps steadying himself better. He still had his other pokemon of course, but rational thought wasn't with him in the moment.]
[Incredulously and a bit bitter tbh.] That's all? It's an untapped market, clearly in demand! The risk is worth the profits it would yield. It'd be stupid to just hand them over.
[Ain't he quite the entrepreneur?? Small child looks to start a business.]
no subject
When did you start givin' a shit about makin' money?
[He doesn't really remember the champ being so money-focused, but he supposes that was entirely possible. It's not like he knew everything there was about him to begin with, he just felt like this would be something a bit more obvious, than not.]
—but yeah, that's all. With no centers here, we got limited options.
no subject
Uh, always? What's it to you?
[Sun was still pretty weirded out by his first comment to remark on the bit about pokemon centers. If anything that was even more reason to collect and sell the fruit to the masses. But no, he couldn't get over the familiarity. A heavy feeling of uncomfortableness slowly started to creep in. Literally; it was a feeling like someone had invaded your personal space. Like if someone were to unexpectedly barge in to your room and then just not leave.]
Look— I don't know you. I know of you.
[His brows furrowed, piercing eyes staring the older man down.]
Why do you know me?
no subject
Finally, he lets Sun down, but the pensive look on his face does little to tell what's going on behind the expression. He's not sure what to believe, what to think, what to feel. Why doesn't Sun know him, why does he only know of him? It didn't make sense, and he couldn't make sense of it.]
You really don't know, huh?
[He sounds tired. There's a decided calmness in him that the Guzma Sun knew didn't possess in any measure. His expression sours as he sticks his hands in his pockets, and turns away from Sun.]
I don't know what's goin' on—what kinda joke this world is tryin' to play on me, but I ain't laughing.
[It's not much of an answer. At all, really, but at least Sun's free?]
no subject
Um. Should I?
[He didn't get what Guzma meant by the world playing a joke on him. He simply watched as the gang leader turned from him. Sun made no attempts to reach out. Why should he? He didn't know what was going on with Guzma and again he had no real connection to the trainer.]
I mean, using dirty tricks during our pokemon battle and breaking my arm doesn't exactly foster a friendship. At least, last I checked. [Callously added as he started back stepping from the man. He hadn't taken his eyes off him yet, but he wasn't planning on sticking around for sure.]
no subject
What the hell are you talkin' about?
[He turns to face him more now, the look of confusion plane on his face.]
I never broke your arm.
[As the two are talking, Golisopod has made his way over, looking at Sun with an expression that contrasts the one of cruelty he had during the battle. That dangerous determination to win, now replaced with something arguably softer. He even lets out a soft trill at the young trainer.]
no subject
Wait wait— you never answered my question.
[He glanced over to the approaching bug, obviously a bit nervous as he looked up to the giant isopod. There was no doubt it's demeanor had changed, definitely a tad softer than it was in battle. Ultimately Sun knew not to blame the pokemon for it's actions, it was his trainer who had it break his arm. He couldn't help his gut reaction though, but still he gave a small smile over to the bug.]
How do you know me? What do you remember.
no subject
He'd greatly resent Sun thinking him as soft, but the truth is he was in comparison to the Guzma this Sun was aware of. The other him more of a psychopath than he ever thought to be—while endangering his grunts and all of Alola, he never did it so directly as this other him did. He actively cared about his grunts and their lives.
Golisopod, for his part, is glad to see the small smile. However, he can sense the tentativeness from the boy, and he keeps his distance for now.]
Tch, fine. It's weird tellin' you this—but this whole thing's weird.
[He tilts his head to the side as he thinks of how to start, his eyes looking upwards away from Sun as he contemplates it all.]
You and me used to be enemies, but I'd say now we're more on the same side. Ya cleaned up the mess me and Madam Prez made tryin' to capture Necrozma, and after I disbanded Team Skull, we teamed up to take out Rainbow Rocket when they took over the Aether Foundation. The champ and your boy did quite a number on 'em, that's for sure.
[There's obviously way more details than that, but he finds it a good enough summary. Guzma never cared about the finer details, just the general meat of it all was good enough.]
—but you don't remember none of that, huh?
no subject
Hmm...
[Sun crossed his arms and closed his eyes. Clearly giving this some real thought as his head tilted from side to side.]
Yeah, no that wasn't me. Champion? Me? Since when did Alola have a league anyways? [He shook his head, feeling slightly bad for the other trainer. Clearly him and his supposed double went through a lot. It explained the familiarity in how the man spoke to him, but none of that happened to him.]
Sorry, I don't remember any of that. [He considered leaving it at that, but the least he could do was fill Guzma in on his side of things. It wouldn't feel right otherwise. Even though they had pretty much been doing that this entire time with the misunderstandings.]
The first time I saw you, you showed up to a battle tournament the Kahuna was holding. Though I think you were more so there to get back at me for beating some of your grunts? [Not really sure.] We battled, I won—that's when you broke my arm by the way. You didn't stick around though. Next time I saw you is in Po Town battling with all the island captains and summoning a bunch of Ultra Beasts from wormholes.
[A pause as he racks his brain for any other details. Honestly he was telling the truth when he said he only knew of Guzma. He hadn't had much interaction with him.]
That was the last we saw of you. You really didn't do any of that? [Just checking...]
no subject
[Guzma doesn't exactly look... pleased by what Sun has to say. It all sounds so ridiculous. Well, not entirely. Some of that shit he'd do, like barging in on a tournament to get back at a kid who crossed him? Yeah, not unheard of. Breaking a kid's arm? Probably. Totally ditching a tournament after he lost? Definitely.
But, summoning a bunch of Ultra Beasts into Po Town? Taking on all the trial captains at once sounds sick as hell, and he'd totally do it, but not at such a high cost...]
Yeah—I ain't done none of that. I won't deny that some of that shit I'd do, but nah. That wasn't me.
[It might have been Guzma, but it wasn't this Guzma. Which just leaves him wondering what that even means. Can there be multiple hims? Multiple Alolas? He knew about the alternate dimensions, and all that sorta shit, and Anabel had mentioned something that eluded to her not being "home", but...]
Augh!
[He exclaims suddenly, hands ruffling his hair as he closes his eyes in annoyance, shaking his head.]
This shit's too much!
no subject
He does shoot a wary look to Guzma as he certainly doesn't deny that he'd do those things. Smh, he knew you were bad Guzma. Before Sun could verbalize what he was thinking though, Guzma is suddenly shouting and fussing his hair up leaving Sun to awkwardly step back and wait for his outburst to end.]
I uh, wouldn't think too hard on it. I hardly understand the Ultra Wormholes as is.
[Despite this being a different Guzma, this wasn't a man he could trust. It didn't matter what the other had went through with alternate him. He still worked with the Aether Foundation. The way he casually mentioned 'Madam Prez', it was something that would never sit right with him. As long as they could just perhaps ignore each other? Not get in each others way? Sun wasn't looking for a fight so that would be fine for him.
Glancing down, he saw the pile of fruit he dropped earlier as a thought crossed his mind. He thoughtfully picked up a few of the fruit and turned to hold them out for Golisopod.]
I won't charge you this time. So go ahead.
[If the giant bug takes them he'll then go to pick up more and let out his Meowth to heal him up as well.]
no subject
He doesn't even notice how Sun reacts to him, and if he did he wouldn't think much of it. He's used to people being wary of him, even his grunts. So, with Sun backing away and being uneasy, it's no different than anyone else.]
Hard not to when it's effecting things how it is, yo.
[Seriously, he's all about NOT THINKING ABOUT THINGS. But that's not entirely avoidable right now. Not with how Sun is here, but not his Sun, and how this Sun knows him, but he's different? It's all just... weird and a mess, and a goddamn headache.
With the fruit offered to Golisopod, the giant bug trills with delight, taking it and eating the fruit in a single bite. The gaze he offers Sun is nothing if not warm and loving. Clearly enjoying the gesture of kindness, and hoping that maybe they can be friends once again...]
Tch, you wouldn't charge him anyways.
[It's not like Pokèmon have money!! Of course, Guzma's not exactly realizing Sun means to charge him, because that's probably even more absurd than charging a Pokèmon.
Guzma doesn't pay for things.]
no subject
While Sun is understandably wary of Guzma, it was more awkward than anything else. Like when when a stranger familiarly knows you by name while you can't even remember seeing their face before. There is the gut feeling to humor the person out of politeness, but when that person is Guzma... just really what do you even say? Is it even worth it to humor him? Most likely not, but they've come this far already so. He just gives Guzma a dismissive shrug.]
You're different, I'm different and none of it makes sense. What else is there to think about?
[He's got more important things to think about honestly. Sun smiles to Golisopod as he takes the fruit, glad the giant bug took his offering before wiping any stray bug slobber off his hands on his pants. It would take time for them to be friends again, but it was a start.]
Of course not, I'd be charging you.
[Stated very matter of factly. It doesn't matter who you are, business is business. It's a little daunting to think about collecting payment from team skull's leader of course, but that wouldn't stop Sun from trying. All the while Sun had let out and healed up Dollar who despite looking less beat up now still remained with it's usual indifferent expression. Was it even thankful? Who could tell. (Sun could that's who)]
no subject
[There was more involved than just him and Sun!! Nanu and Anabel were both here, but... what if they were from some weird alternate world and he wasn't aware. Maybe they weren't aware? Maybe they were and they had been playing him for a chump?!
And this is why he got frustrated, there's too much unknown, which he's normally fine with ignoring, but...]
You won't be chargin' me neither, ya punk.
[He says it with a stern confidence that's just as much a challenge as it is fact. With a scathing look to Golisopod, the Pokèmon shrinks a little, before he starts to collect fruits of his own. It's not you, Golisopod, it's Guzma.]
—Where you stayin'? You found a place, hm?
[He says it casual, asking like it wasn't strange for him to be curious, and for him it's not. Sun's the strange part of this mess, not him.]
no subject
What ain't simple about it, stupid? So maybe there are others, what makes that any different. It's the same mess!
[The whole thing would still be a confusing mess with people having different memories of events (and not just time related shenanigans). You just shrug it off, maybe talk it out a little less stupidly than the two of them did and get on with it.
As Guzma challenges payment though in the next breath, Sun can't help but watch Golisopod sympathetically. It's ok buggo, you're not in trouble with Sun at least.]
Yeah, like I said: I won't be charging you for it this time. [A scoff.]
[While there was no payment owed today Sun was not backing down either regarding future due compensations. He didn't have to worry about cutting off a job source by pissing off the grunts like he did back in Alola. He was well acquainted with the task board by now.
With the pile of fruit he was collecting now adequate, Sun scooped up as much as he could in his arms and started off towards the seemingly forgotten but still very much knocked out tyrannosaur. Dollar had his back as he was still watching out for anymore tantrums out of Guzma, but he felt the level of that had fell to snippy comments at least for now. He felt comfortable enough at least going over and leaving a pile of fruit close to the giant dinosaur's maw. He had no clue when it would regain consciousness, but he wanted it to be able to recover as well. It was the least he could do for knocking it out.]
I'm staying in town! What's it to ya?
[Aka the temporary housing all other worlders get. ]
