Okay, try this. You're surrounded by a sea of information, and all channels are open. Shut them off one by one, and set up some security measures. Eventually you'll have just one channel left - don't try to regulate what goes through it yet, that's probably too much all at once. As long as you cut down on communications you aren't even aware of, it's a solid starting point.

Fill in the specific context and techniques you'd use. I think pretending it's a tangible system trips some kind of placebo effect, but like I said before, it's no good if it doesn't feel familiar.
