I'm sorry about all this.

[Zarkon notes the scent, and he sniffs, but he doesn't remark on it. Instead, his wind blows it away from him—although that's due to Zarkon's continuing low-level irritation rather than his conscious direction.

The reason Zarkon is persisting in this clock task may have more to do with sheer stubbornness than goodwill at this point. But he has also decided that establishing the goodwill of the empire is a fine idea, now that he's thought of it. At home, the empire is known for its strength. It is a protector, and also a guide. Why not here, as well? He'll have to think of a better task to establish that reputation in future, though.

I also require that paper.

[Zarkon turns. The paper is, maddeningly enough, still fluttering nearby, in a manner that's more taunting than promising.]

Because we're going to deliver this clock, Commander.

[He says this in a tone that's much more grim, perhaps, than the simplicity of the task would suggest is appropriate. It's actually a very nice clock: gilded, with elegant carvings.]
