[Considering the 'future' there was no reason to deny it. As much as losing his mother set him onto a dark and twisted path, losing Obi-Wan would shatter his very being almost as much as death of Padme.

Qui-Gon.

His mother.

Ahsoka.

All losses that haunted him. Ahsoka not so much, but the pain of her leaving and everything surrounding it still gave him a great deal of guilt. Losing Obi-Wan would be a tipping point. Losing Padme a complete annihilation of everything he strove to protect.

Pieces of a whole that together made him stronger, but losing cause him to break.
