A power he's learned he has is to be able to tell what an animal is thinking, or feeling. It can sound like a voice in his head, or just a feeling that digs at him. With the wolves back at home, all he could hear was hunger, a crazed anger, wanting to take and tear and eat eat eat.
He feels no such thing here. And while he's still getting used to the whole god thing, he decides to trust what he's feeling - at least for now.
His arm lowers from reaching the bow and instead slowly reaches out, palm up as if to calm the beast, or at least let it know he doesn't mean harm.]
